Hey.... I got an 8500 and absolutely love it. The UltraSharp UXGA is a little bit better. The SXGA is 1400x1050 pixels, vs. the UXGA which is 1600x1200. Both have 16.7 million colors, yadda, yadda, yadda. Also the UXGA can be seen from a much wider viewing angle. If you're going to watch DVD's on it a lot, I would go for the UXGA, it will give you really good resolution.

I have an Ispiron 8200. UXGA Ultrasharp is the only way to go!! Only downside is not too many pix are at that resolution.

I'm just going to add I got an Inspiron 8600 and love it. Dell's are good computers. Sorry I don't know the specifics on the different screens though.
