Hi guys, got a minor PC problem that someone may be able to solve! Sometimes, when playing MP3 audio files on my laptop they are scratchy as h*ll, or there are small pauses. It doesnt happen all the time but when it does its annoying! thanks

from my understanding laptops don't always have the best soundcards. I used to have trouble recording audio on mine and with my new one it comes out great. also your jack where you plug in the speakers (if you are using speakers) could have a bad connection. I also had this problem and it could only be fixed by replacing the motherboard.

I had this problem on my PC with a SoundBlaster Live! card under XP. Tried updating all the drivers etc, but still no luck until I bought an Audigy 2  Big thumbs up
I know Creative and some other companies do USB soundcards, often with more ports too if you're into that kind of thing - I guess you could pick one up for around £40 (off the top of my head.)

Another possibility is the MP3's are poorly encoded because I know I've had some files that sound fine and then suddenly scratch, hiss and pop all at once, scaring the shit out of me! Guess I'm asking does it occur with the same songs at the same point?  Big grin
