This has to be a sport. They heft some weighty object. Sweep some ice. Thats already three times more than anyone wants to do outside in the middle of freaking winter.

Easy Soccer Fan. If you are talking about Football, you might want to be a little more clear. either way, just don't flip over my car, set my house on fire, or throw blood and urine bombs at me.

Is bowling a sport? Billiards? Luge? Bobsled?
I don't think any single criteria can apply here...sweating, contact, throwing, jumping...etc.
And the average physique of baseball players doesn't exactly establish them as "athletes".
Any activity that requires some athletic skill and can draw spectators is a sport, whether you personally think so or not.
This thread is nothing more than an attempt to impose silly personal criticism on yet another activity that many Canadians enjoy. Don’t like it? Don’t watch/play it….

I think its a sport. It falls in the same category as golf and bowling. I have tried it once and was sweating my ass off sweeping that damn ice! I also enjoyed it the one time I did it. Plenty of strategy and skill. Can't say it's fun to watch on TV though.

IT IS A SPORT.
Those of you who say there is no sweating, have you ever tried it? Ever tried to push a 42 pound rock with the strength of one leg? Ever swept that rock and tried to keep up with it as it travels down the ice at 10 mph?
YYZ717, when the Brier is on in two weeks, watch Ferbey's front end, Marcel Rocque and Scott Pfeiffer. Watch the sweat drip off their foreheads. Watch them haul that rock fifteen feet further than it would have gone with no sweeping. Then tell me it's not a sport.
CURLING IS ABSOLUTELY A SPORT.

Actually the definition of a sport that I like, states that if a winner has to be determined by a judge and not by time, distance or a score then it isn't a sport.
Anything else is just a competion, with various degrees of athletic ability involved.

From our high school's Course Description Guide from last year:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
Credit: .50
Grade: 10, 11, 12
Students who love the great outdoors will want to experience the challenges that this course has to offer...Also extreme sports such as mountain biking and curling will be taught...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I chuckle every time I read it. I would consider curling a sport, but definitely not an extreme sport. Kinda like NASCAR (which, I was told by a friend, apparently stands for Non-Athletic Sports Centered Around Rednecks ). Subsequently, the word "curling" was changed to "kayaking" in this year's guide.

Curling ? Definitely a sport.
Darts ? Billiards/Pool/ Snooker ? Bowling ? Lawn Bowls ? Poker ???? They sound like Pub Games. But the way they are coverd on TV these days maybe they are sports.
But then again didn't some one try and get Ballroom dancing into the Olympics ?

L-188, you've got it! Personally, I think every event in the Olympics that has judges should be tossed out or modified. For example, ski jumping. Who cares if the guy flaps his arms, or lands on all fours? Longest distance wins, period.

I watched curling this past Sunday on CBC out of Windsor Ontario. A team from Quebec was playing Team Canada (women) and the match was played in a town called Red Deer, which I believe is in Alberta. Over 6,000 fans packed a hockey arena which was converted to a curling rink to watch these matches.
Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool.....
