F.C. Barcelona will face Celtic in the UEFA cup 4th round. It should be a great match, and could easily have been in the Champions League. Who do you think will come out on top?

I think Barca can do it, especially with their excellent form lately, but then I'm a little biased.  Wink/being sarcastic

-Q

P.S. Are there any other "Barcelonistas" here?

Long live the A330!

I too think Barca can win. They seem in a confident mood, with their 7 match winning streak and at the moment Ronaldinhio is awesome to watch. I am an Arsenal fan, but Barca would be my 2nd fav team.

I actually reckon Celtic will win this with a bit to spare. Barca aren't all that and Celtic are a decent side. I take Celtic by 2 goals on aggregate.

I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

This is a tough one. If you base it on what History would tell you, you'd think Barcelona are this huge mighty team that wins everything, and Celtic play in Scotland. If this was 5 years ago, it would be seen as a huge shock if Celtic won, but I don't think this is the case anymore. Problem is that over the last few years, Celtic have been very strong in Europe, beating many big names along the way, they have not lost in the league this season at all, and currently are on a 25 or 26 game winning streak in the league.

Barcelona are 3rd or 4th in their league, although clearly a better league.

I think both teams can win it, and it would not surprise me either way.

Score update:

At half time, the score was 0-0. At the end of the 1st half, there was an incident in the tunnel that led to Douglas (the Celtic goalie) and Motta being sent off.

49th minute: Saviola was sent off for a retaliation after he was tackled by Thompson.

59th minute: Thompson scores for Celtic.

68th minute: At the time of this writing, score still 1-0.

Well, I guess Barca will have their work cut out for them in the second leg!

My money is still on Barca going through. They wasted at least 3 great chances to score, and really a draw would have been a fairer result. Also, with the attacks in Madrid, I dare say that the Barca players would have had their minds elsewhere.

My money is now on Celtic to go through. Celtic have a 1-0 advantage, and Barca now need to score at least two without Celtic getting any. If Celtic get one in Barcelona, then Barcelona needs plenty. Celtic were without a lot of top players tonight, Sutton, Hartson, Valgeren etc, and not having their first choice goalkeeper either for half the game. Sutton will likely play in the next one, and he really is an integral part of the teams success.

Trust a Rangers fan to find something to crow about when his team is out of all competitions and 16 points behind in the league.

A simple well done to the Scottish team would have sufficed

Sorry Artsyman, but this isnt the first time Celtic fans have shown no respect after a terrorist attrocity. Remember after 9/11, Rangers Vs Celtic, Claudio Reyna was running up to take a corner and that Celtic idiot made an aircraft movement symbolising the WTC crashes.
Sorry, but if they cant learn to respect minute silences then I aint got no respect for Celtic at all if they keep letting these morons watch their games.

Scottish team? There was more frigging Irish flags than Scottish flags. Fair enough, at Rangers games there are loads of Union Jacks which I also hate  Angry

Did the Celtic Support not become the 1st ever set of supporters to win the UEFA fair play award? or did you just forget that in your bigoted hatred?

That's right of course Celtic Football Club PLC carefully planned both incidents and each and every supporter within the ground is as much responsible for the actions of a handfull of assholes!

Then the old Irish flag debate, the age old bitterness just never escapes some folks huh?

And by the way, the second leg has been played:

Barcelona 0 - Celtic 0

(Barcelona 0 - Celtic 1 aggregate)

Oh well. Sad I guess now Barca can give it everything they've got in La Liga.

The 19 year old Celtic keeper pulled off some great saves.
Perhaps Barca should buy someone that can score goals?  Confused

Anxebla, I think the English Premier League is much more popular here. It gets more TV time here than any other league.

GKirk, yes it's a very surprising result, although Celtic were defending with most of their players toward the end.

Perhaps Barca should buy someone that can score goals?

Both Kluivert and Saviola were not playing. I think that if Saviola was on the field, the result could have been different. Nonetheless, Barca supposedly has a large transfer budget now, and will definitely looking to buy. I've heard that Trezeguet is linked with a move to Barca... Who knows?

Yes Trezeguet is reumored to be going to Barca over the summer, because apparently, Juve is interested in brining their prodigal son Vieri back from Inter.

Why is it so hard for many of you to just say well done to Celtic. Last year they beat loads of great teams along the way to the final of the UEFA Cup, yet all the way, there were comments of "yes but" and "if only", and the same is continuing this time around. Celtic are beating everyone that they are being paired against, and deserve some recognition for it.

I know that Barcelona, Ajax, Celta Vigo, Liverpool, Blackburn, Boavista, Stuttgart mean nothing to any of you, and when Celtic also beat Juventus it meant nothing, and then the friendly's where they drew Arsenal, beat Man United, Leeds and the list goes on also meant nothing as they were just friendly's.

Sure they defended the whole game in Nou Camp, but you do what you need to do in order to win. ManU do the same thing there, as does virtually everyone else. No point trying to exchange a bucket load of goals with them.

I do not crow too much about Celtic's league performance, as clearly Rangers and Celtic play in a different world to the rest of the SPL, but Celtic's Euro results have been consistent for a few years now.

Who knows if they can go and win the Uefa Cup this year, maybe they will get knocked out next round, but they are certainly no longer the walk over in Europe that they used to be...

Artsyman, all I've heard from Celtic fans is how they won the European Cup in 1967, how there gonna win everything. It gets boring, hence the reason I love to see Celtic lose in Europe.
Although I predicted 4-0 to Barcelona last night  Sad

The irony is of course that the only reason Rangers are going to be in the Champion's League next season if because of how well Celtic have done in Europe of late which has pushed Scotland up the UEFA rankings and given them a second spot. A couple of years ago Scotland only had 1 Champions League spot until Celtic started doing the business.
