Luleå, April 1, 2001 - In an unexpected move, Airliners.net, the self-proclaimed "Wings of the web", was sold Sunday April 1 to an undisclosed car manufacturer. "A great day for Airliners.net (now Carliners.net)" says former Editor-in-chief, Johan Lundgren. "We have been in talks with this automobile company for a few months now, it's a good thing we finally got a deal though". Mr Lundgren claims he will leave the aviation industry for good and concentrate on his other hobbies, watching old Simpsons episodes and sleeping. "All those Airbus vs Boeing fights were driving me nuts, I had to get out while I could", he says.
An official from the car manufacturer who prefers to be anonymous said in a phone interview; "That flying stuff does not interest us much. We will have it all replaced with cars and trucks". According to inside sources, the new slogan will be "the wheels of the web".
