Use Of The Words "Lose" And "Loose"

Okay, I am momentarily bored. I just wanted to come on and vent over a matter that drives me crazy at times, and that is the matter of those who cannot fathom the proper usage of the words "lose" and "loose" in a sentence.

ie: "I have nothing to loose, so I bought it".
"I thought I was gonna loose my mind".
"My belt was very lose".

"I have nothing to LOSE, so I bought it"
"I thought I was gonna LOSE my mind"
"My belt was very LOOSE".

LOL.....okay, rant over. Talk amongst yourselves.

Hmm... "Loose" and "lose" don't bother me as much as people who can't tell the difference between "your" and "you're" and "there," "their," and "they're" do. Those are just unforgiveable to me.

Looser vs. loser?

One of my favorite things about this site! I love it when people do that! So thick with irony, ya gotta love it. When someone actually calls you that, there is no need to respond since they have made themselves look pretty stupid.

Yes, this is probably my most hated grammatical error here on A.net. If you want, you can see my other pet peeves here: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/site_related/read.main/19279/

I avoid that confusion by reciting sentences with those words in it so I can get em straight.

That slut in the corner is loose, keep a distance.

Its almost like Potatoe and Potato.

Spelling mistakes drive me nuts. I'm also rather big on sentence structure. It's the editor in me  Big grin

My pet peeve, though, is comma usage. It seems no one can get them down. That includes companies like CNN and Reuters!

If I am talking about Bob Newhart's neigbors on the show "Newhart", I'm talking about Larry, Darryl, and the other Darryl. Not Larry, Darryl and the other Darryl!!!

Yeah, it's picky, but I'm weird.

Yeah. Everyone knows that the correct spelling is "Color", "Favor", and I have no idea what the hell that last word is.

A serial comma (the last comma in a series) is not necessary in newspaper
and magazine writing. Beginning writers should use a serial comma.
