What's Your Preferred Way Of Popping Popcorn?

Nothing beats a good, solid batch of popcorn. Except of course, a nice, uneventful shower, but that's another thread. Modern technology has given us myriad ways to pop popcorn, but many people stick to one technique for the majority of their popping.

This is a poll regarding home and general consumption, so movie theater popcorn is not on the list.

1. Skillet/pan - popcorn and oil
2. Microwave
3. Popping machine
4. Those stovetop premade popper thingies that develop the bubble as the corn pops
5. Don't pop - eat store bought prepopped (not really a way of popping popcorn, I know, but the lazy should be included, too)

Also, feel free to share your preferred toppings such as salt, butter, etc. and how you deal with those pesky, unpopped kernels.

The results will be updated as votes come in.

I'll start.

1. Skillet/pan - popcorn and oil
sometimes plain, occasionally with butter
unpopped kernels are recycled into the next batch

RESULTS SO FAR:

1 vote - 1. Skillet/pan - popcorn and oil
0 votes - 2. Microwave
0 votes - 3. Popping machine
0 votes - 4. Those stovetop premade popper thingies that develop the bubble as the corn pops
0 votes - 5. Don't pop - eat store bought prepopped (not really a way of popping popcorn, I know, but the lazy should be included, too)

Microwave. We have a microwave popcorn popper in which you pour the popcorn, oil, salt, etc into the bowl, which has a disposable microwave material liner on the bottom (like that on the inside of a bag of microwave popcorn), put the lid on it, pop it into the microwave, and about 3 minutes later, popcorn. I like using it as opposed to buying bags of microwave popcorn because microwave popcorn is to greasy.

I use my handy-dandy Presto POPlite Gourmet/Regular Hot Air Popper....it must be 15 years old and hasn't failed me once.

The butter goes into a small pyrex dish....the dish then goes into the microwave, where it is perfectly melted (the butter, that is).

You know what????.....I think I will go make some right now!  Smile Thanks for the great idea.

I'd say either pan and oil... or one of those air pop machines. I had one before I moved out of my parents house and it was great!

Air popt stinks, JMHO.

I do like skillet, with Olive OR Sesame oil and a tinge of butter.

Theater Popt should be there on the list as it gets my #1 vote!  Big thumbs up

Air popped makes it too dry imho, unfortunatly that is the popper type I own. So you have to butter it, or tobasco it quite a bit.

Microwave is ok, but you run a great risk of burning it if you leave it in too long.

I prefer the oil popper machines.

Pan frying with oil, is a good way to set your house on fire

I like the stovetop premade thingies. It is more fun than microwave or airpopped, you have to put some effort into it. I wouldn't try oil popping at home but that tastes the best...
