oh my gawd!

even after hitting the first tree and splitting, the rear section of the car looks like it hit it's second tree at 100mph.

Oh I should mention that this guy was going only 90km/hr...

There's a reason why some roads have low speed limits.

Instant hamburger I guess...funny how the airbag didn't deploy.

He would have to be going substantially faster than 90 km/h. Yes, that's the last speed recorded by the speedometer, but doesn't necessarily indicate the speed of the first impact. It would take a much greater speed to create that much damage. Also, nobody drives at only 90 km/h in Portugal!  Big grin

These are disturbing pictures though. Portugal has really bad death rates on the roads, but the highways are very safe, and they drive incredibly fast there too.

That was waaaaaaaaaaaay more than 90km/hr. I suspect it was full clock. Surly it would take a great deal of force to wrap a car around a tree like this (Look at photo #10). Even the shrapnel - The flying bits and pieces left marks in the other trees when they struck. Look at the area - The size of that crash site! Did anybody call the FAA??? Cuz buddy (or honey) was ffffffflying! What a damn shame...

Also, I hope that's a woman holding the measuring tape in photo #4

Tree came out of it pretty well, though.

Hope that some of the people seeing these pictures are going to think twice before they start racing down the street believing it'll never happen to them.

I have seen some nasty car accidents, but nothing like this.
The car is totally scattered all over the place, looks almost like a plane crash.

What ever happened to the key in picture 8? The body apparently got ripped off the bit, but could it really be stuck in the dashboard like it seems to be?!?  Wow!

Horendous crash indeed.  Sad

I suspect that the Airbag(s) didn't deploy because the car seems to have hit the first tree sideways and the driver and passenger bags only deploy in an frontal collision. I could be wrong about this though.

What's that white thing coming out of the passenger seat, it's not the seat foam, could it be a side airbag? Would have been useless anyway in this case.

T prop.

Whats strange is the fact the car is relatively clean. I mean there is no evidence of blood or other tissue. it looks almost like someone took an empty car and fired it at a tree, with a slingshot or cannon.

Galaxy5:

I think it's like that because the occupants of the car didn't wear seatbelts and were thrown out of the car during the crash. See the two white blankets in images 10 and 11?

Im gonna go out on a limb here and speculate that the driver was going a bit faster than indicated.

It would be interesting in finding out what happened to the person(s) in the car. I am sure they bit the dust. I see something that looks like blood stains on the tree in pic 10. Also in pic 10 you see a plastic bag with what looks like blood and guts on it.

You never know though. Several years ago not far from my home a crotch rocket motorcycle sideswiped a small car at a high speed when being chased by the police. The car was torn in half and the motorcycle disintigrated. However both the rider and the driver in the car survived. Can't say how well they survived but they did.
