Hey Nizmo,

Not sure what kind of response you'll get here since there are a lot of "anti-rice" folks here. That said, you could check out Ebay for car parts. My gf has bought a lot of stuff for her Civic on there (she's really into import tuning).

I don't know much about the rice rocket craze (except to recognise it as maybe the "next" hot rod generation), but a young guy down the street is the local afficianado. If you don't have access to the dozens of monthly magazines available, try going to www.nissanforums.com for some specific info. Regards...Jack

Um... tuning a Japanese car isn't rice. Adding stickers, a wing, and a 12 inch exhaust is rice.

JAL777:

I agree, but to a lot of people here the mere mention of a Japanese car is rice.

Dear JAL and Cactus...I didn't mean to be offensive. We were calling them 'rice rockets' (a complimentary upgrade of 'rice burners') before either of you were born, let alone in possession of driver licences. With due respect though, I will upgrade my slang to 'tuners'. I must ask though, is 'tuner' specifically for Japanese products or does that fit any performance modified import? Jack

A tuner is someone who performance modifies any car with the knowledge of what he/she is doing and is not doing it for looks. Be it a Yugo or an M3. A rice rocket is a car who's been modified considerably but is probably slower then it was stock because its owner is both retarded and a poser.

Let me show you the difference:

Not-Rice...

Rice... (Italian no less. What kind of moron puts a Porsche Turbo bodge on a Ferrari?)

A clear indication of rice... the moron parked at Barnes & Noble this morning with a brand spanking new BMW 525i. He switched the badges for M5 ones. So basically, anyone who doesn't know cars doesn't care for what M5 and 525i mean... and for those of us who know cars, we can only assume that he's an idiot. $45,000 car + $5.00 mod = RICE.

I have a 240sx. I go to www.240sxforums.com however i dont think a 200sx is the same as a 240sx. They look different and have different engines. A 200sx is actually the old sentra. here's some sites for parts:

www.240sxmotoring.com
www.cipmotorsports.com
www.thespeedfactor.com
www.enjukuracing.com
www.unstable-hybrids.com
www.phase2motortrend.com
www.projectsilvia.com
www.gude.com
www.ka24de.com
www.nsport.com
www.etdracing.com

Some of these only apply to the 240sx so dont blame me if there's no 200sx in there.

Some Japaneese cars are good (Supra, RX-7, S2000, 3000GT, 300ZX, NSX G35, 350Z, WRX) some are shitty (Eclipse, Civic, Celica, RSX ect.)

The 240SX is a decent vehicle. My friend has one that runs 14's with a few mods. I'll talk to him and see what he's got. In the meantime good luck w/ the car!

I've got quite a bit of experience with tuning turbo cars, I have a 1993 Vauxhall Cavalier 4X4 Turbo which has been modified to produce 370 bhp. I also run a Vauxhall Nova with the turbo engine and box (modified for 2WD)under the bonnet which I enter into special stages, hillclimbs, track racing, track days and sprints.

I've also done a fair bit of work on an S13 200SX which my mate had.

If you're looking for power upgrades I would suggest a Superchip (about £350-£400 fitted) which could net you as much as 30% extra bhp and a good bit of extra torque, and then after that increasing the boost and fitting a wastegate (which you really should have anyway to keep the turbo happy) is probably your best bet, and with an electronic boost controller you can vary the boost so as not to goose the engine as you drive to the shops, reserving the serious power for those blasts on country lanes.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy There are literally dozens of relatively simple things you can do.

If you've got any specific questions or need more detailed general information either post here or throw an e-mail my way and I'll answer them.

Regards,
Gordon.

Hi there all thanks for your input BTW the car in question is a 1990 200SX S13 so the one that Gordonsmall worked on is the same model as mine, as i got the car as a hand me down from my mother so i know its been thrashed very rarely (xcept when dad got behind the wheel!!) and this its mechanically sound. The UK Nissan 200SX is the same as the 240SX Coupé with the engine being the only difference (the us gets a 2.4 V6 whereas europe and Japan gets the CA18DET 4cyl turbo which i have). Those links to those sites are great thanks as the Silvia sheares the engine with the 200! I want more power and bigger rims than the 15s its on.
We have those rice racers here too driving round in 1.4 Ford Fiesta With RS Turbo or XR2i badges on them! makes you laugh and feel sorry for then doesent it! hahaha

2.4 V6? It's actually also a 4-cyl. Nice CA18DET you have though.

Today I saw an "M" 740IL ... how sad. It was obvious the guy bought the car used and added a fake M to the left side of the rear. F*cking LOSER! JESUS CHRIST GODDAMMIT MOTHERSHIT F*CK!

JAL777 has summed up the subject really well. Good definition there

Can't believe someone would put a turbo badge on a Ferrari!!! I mean, isn't Ferrari enough? There's nothing you can stick to a Ferrari that can make it look hotter. And, if this guy was dumb enough to really install a turbo in the engine, shouldn't that tuner have his own badge... Why use a Porsche badge..

There's a side of rice that wasn't covered though. Those who give their car 5bhp through cone filter + exhaust, and spend 10,000$ on its looks because it really is faster than the original. So that category is the cars that look faster than they really are, the motivations of the owner being that it might be "less slow" than the original because of the remus exhaust or whatever.

and of course, any car with huge rims or badly designed exterior fittings IS RICE, REGARDLESS of whether it accelerates faster than a Ferrari or not. Items affecting performance negatively such as disproportionate rims/spoilers or badly designed wings etc, immediately classify the car as rice, in a flash, a glimpse, faster than you can say rice, even if it is faster than a Mclaren F1.

'nuff said.
