The music isn't that bad. But the whole lets all wear girls pants and shiny belts, and dress to attract other guys thing ruins it. If you dress normally then the its a good scene I guess. Name some bands for us to discuss.

I'm in the Punk scene, somewhat in the hardcore scene. But the punk scene has become nothing more than studs, custom jackets with patches, and a crazy (but stupid) hair style.
I have beel pulling out of it for the past few months, I'm just sick and tired of the looks, why? It's about the music and the mentality, not how many studs you can fit on your shoe.
I'd like to elect a president that has a Higher IQ than a retarted ant.

Been in the Indie scene as soon as I heard good music, and realized pop pretty much destroys it. what bands do you folks listen to?
Oh ya I skateboard also, but its been so overcommercialized, and so many people do it that the scence has sort of died, now all I see is different groups of skaters in their own sceene by city.
Funny thing is I dont dress like either of those two.

I was punk in the early 1980's, as well as Mod later and was able to see many great bands. I would hang out on Melrose Blvd. at Posers and generally be an ass. I got out of the Punk scene quick when a gang called Fight For Freedom (FFF) began to emerge. It seemed that everyone was only interested in fighting, instead of enjoying the pleasure of the music.
FFF then turned into a group called LA Death Squad after a famous murder on the streets of Hollywood. The scene further continued to spiral downward when Nazi Punk became popular, turning into today's White Supremacist groups that are popular in Southern California. Many groups resisted this Nazi Punk movement and the scene changed yet again in the mid 1980's into skate punk.
I refused to be a follower however and in these "Fad" scenes you must be a sheep. I resisted Tattoos and piercing’s and was labeled un-cool and cast out. I still enjoyed the music and went to gigs. Common venues included, Madam Wong’s West, Olympic Auditorium and any other underground club of the month.
I was able to watch many of my punk friends carry on the scene in the movie Another State of Mind. My friend was a roadie for the band Youth Brigade and asked me to come along. I declined and went into the Air Force. The list below includes gigs I attended but not always sober. I regret never seeing The Jam and Social Distortion in concert.

Sure the most memorable was the Olympic Auditorium gig, had to be around 1983 in Los Angeles.
Dead Kennedy’s
Exploited
GBH
CRASS
This was the last punk gig ever to be performed at this venue. The owner banned all punk bands after all the toilets were destroyed and flooding occurred, huge fights erupted outside and many of the seats were torn up and thrown to make room for slam pits.
Luckily most of this occurred after the bands finished, punks aren't stupid they are professional misfits. The exploited stole the show when a bunch of hippies came on stage and announced that Exploited would not be playing tonight.
The crowd went ape shit spitting on the hippies and throwing seats on stage. Exploited is notorious for their HUGE Mohawks but it was soon discovered that this was exploited but they didn't have the Mohawks up. They began to play their very uber-hard style sent the crowd into frenzy and mass slam pits began.
When all was said and done $30K worth of damage and riot squads were called to the scene. I was detained with about 200 others after the show but I told the pigs I was an epileptic. They looked at me long and hard and for some stupid reason believed me and let me go, dumb ass cops.
I also think these bands never played together again after that show.

I'm into any music that sounds good, both mainstream and indie. I think that punk has become overrated, just look at what Blink182 did to it's credibility. I think they write some great stuff, but they whored it out way to hard.
Some good bands out in this area:
Whitlock
Hollasdeed
Civil Liberty (now there's a punk band)
Tech
Ahimsa
To name a few, I have to admit I find it hard getting really into the scene, not having much access to it and all. Anybody know where I can find some good indie stuff?

Bad Religion
Dropkick Murphys
Flogging Molly
Oxymoron
The Forgotten
AFI (before the whole MTV crap)
Diesel Boy
Blood for Blood
Business
Agnostic Front
Beerzone
Tons more I can't remember now.
Alex.

Anyone like Strike Anywhere, the more punk side of me has come out, and I have decided to go see that show in a week or two. I absolutely love that hardcore stuff sometimes. Something different than the underground hip hop and soft indie i listen to all the time.
