Yeah - there was one on display in Monte Carlo a little while ago.

Not the most environmentally friendly tank I've ever seen but I can appreciate it has a certain niche.

What's the big deal? There was a 57 and a 62 at last Friday's Houston Auto Show. I believe, however, the 62 was only there for Press Day. I think the show goes on for another week.

It's expensive...but much ado about nothing....looks like a pimped out S600.

I saw one on Hudson Street in Manhattan a couple of weeks ago. What a monster - it is to automobiles what the Hummer is to SUV's.

I saw one up close at Ray Catena Mercedes in Edison New Jersey, it has to be the F-ugliest car I have ever seen.

Sticker price was like $350,000 (or something like that), it's in the middle of the show room. The doors are locked but it's not roped off or anything, for that kind of money I would buy a bunch of Ferrari's.

I saw one in the lot of Mercedes-Benz of Bellevue last time I took the CLK in. It was nice, but nothing I'd want to buy. It would be great if you needed (or wanted) to be chauffeured about, but why would you buy one to drive it?

American757 - sounds like you'll get to see some nice stuff! I love to go to the dealership from time to time, and the Porsche dealership is right across the street!

But that was when I ruled the world

Saw one last summer at an auto show that passed through town. Impressive car but way too expensive.

The Maybach has not met sales expectations for Mercedes-Benz. If I recall, they expected to sell 1,000 units worldwide per year, but that has been reduced to 800, if memory serves me correctly. There are many reasons for the lackluster sales so far. Buyers of sedans are generally conservative in nature, and conservative people are choosing not to flaunt their wealth as much as they used to. Therefore, those with money who want to flaunt, end up getting Ferraris or Lamborghinis (both makes doing very well these days). Another reason for the slower sales is the fact that the Maybach doesn't really offer much more over an S Class, yet is significantly more expensive. While no vehicle that costs six figures or more is a bargain, you can see the value in certain very expensive vehicles. That is not the case with the Maybach.

However, if I got the opportunity to have a close look at the Maybach, I'd be right there. It is still an impressive vehicle in its own right. But it truly lacks style and charisma.

Have fun AA757. Will you get to go for a ride in anything?

I have seen a few Maybachs "in the wild" and took a close look at one at the IAA, and I have to say that I disagree that I disagree with Captaingomes that you "can't see the value". I've never seen a car with a more-comfortably looking fond.

Captaingomes

When was the last time you saw a S-class look like this?

Nah, it's not worth something like 3 times as much as an S-Class. And the market agrees, since the Maybach is doing rather poorly.  Smile

Dad is getting home late so were not goin today though  Sad. Oh well, I am goin down to marina for a bikeride in a few mins who knows what I will see there.

If American757 lived in Alabama, his postings of exclusive Mercedes would be few and far between. There are a few S-Classes around here, but generally not the exotics. BMWs are much more popular, excepting the dominance of local M-classes, since they are built only about 120 miles south of Huntsville.

My grandma lives in Palestine Texas, and I was suprised to see that there were 4 S Classes in the area. The closest MB dealer to he is in Tyler and when I drove past it was a Toyota dealer with a little sign with the 3 pointed star on it, the inventory was as follows, 2 ML, 4 C Classes, and an E. Im sure it has changed but I couldnt beleive it. I almost died, cause I was so deprived of seein any Mercedes, later that week though I went down to Houston for the rest of my trip and I had a time there. I payed a visit to MB of Houston North to see how their facilities are. They were pretty modern looking typical of mb, but I like the conservative look of the one by me, fits well with the areas image.

thats cause its new york!! I think I have seen all of the mb models now though as today I saw a G55, that was the only one. I have been seeing alot of ML and E lately. The S600 has been pretty common considering how often I used to see it.

Hey AA757, let me know when the E320 CDI diesel shows up at Mercedes-Benz dealerships. I know it's supposed to be soon, and it's really nice to see Mercedes getting back into selling diesel powered cars in North America.

I too have a friend who works as a service manager at a Mercedes-Benz dealership in the Toronto area (must be a busy guy with all the problems current Benzes have), and he's taken me for a few really cool rides. The most memorable was years ago, when I was a young punk like American757, and he took me for a ride in a 1996 SL600 V12. I even brought along my video camera (what a geek).  Smile

Other memorable rides were in a red 500 SL from the early 90's, a late 90's E55 at 225 km/h, and the most recent was approximately a year ago in a brand new E500, which was very impressive.

My favorite was my aunt rear ending someone and totalling her Mercedes SL.

She was fine, but the car was a goner.

The other day on the highway I saw one of them. They look very elegant. I find the Rolls Royce or Bentley show more wealth. It had New York NY Jets plates on it. I thought maybe a pro football player was in it. It was a middle aged man driving it. Maybe a big exec.
