Hi all,
I want to know what the heck is running in the background of my pc. I go and end the process of these programs, and they pop back up, under new names.
Example:
End EpwW2ln.exe and it comes back up as Jrz3r.exe.
There are two of these running and it really pisses me off that they use up sometimes 5 percent of my resources. That may not sound like much, but when you do graphic editing, it is.

I am on XP now and haven't tried it yet but it worked fine in all other windows' which I have used (95,95,NT,ME,2000). Oh it does work!
If you click Start
1 - Run
2 - Type in msconfig
3 - Click the Startup tab
4 - Scroll down and find the offending application and any more which share the same or similar path and you KNOW ARE NOT SYSTEM FILES
5 - Disable them
6 - Close
7 - Reboot
Hopefully that would solve the problems as it stops them loading on startup and therefore can not re-spawn.

XP doesnt have msconfig.exe , if anyone needs it that has XP e-mail me and I will send it to you. But try Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware , they will help also.

Well I just typed in msconfig into the run window in my XP (Home) and it worked, it also works on Pro.
Also get something that removes spyware like Dan said and Norton Internet Security is good too, can get rid of pop ups.

Interestingly there is absolutely nothing about those two executable programs on Google.
And it's probably not a virus as there is no mention of them on the Symantec Security Response website.

It just sounds like those annoying files which are sometimes automatically downloaded by adverts & pop ups, they are normally done by the time the window displays. I had a few once, I just stopped them and my firewall stopped any more. If not they could have come along with something that he installed or downloaded.
Ryan - If the files are still running check your internet connection for an increase in outbound and inbound traffic, we had a problem a few months back where rouge files were acting as mirrors for porn and other stuff, seemed to just die away though. If you see a sudden increase in traffic just disconnect, then a firewall would be very handy.
