Ethnicities And Occupations...

I've noticed that certain ethnic groups seem drawn to particular industries. A few examples are:

The Arabs seem to have a corner on the gasoline industry. Go to any gas station, and chances are, a nice Middle Eastern fellow owns it.

The Indians (from India) seem to be drawn to the car rental and hotel industries. Go to any hotel/motel or car rental location, and chances are, someone named Patel owns it.

Here in LA, go to any char-broiled hamburger fasty food joint (not Burger King), and it will be run by a Greek family.

Also, here in CA, it seems that every Casino is run by a Native American Indian

Although this is no longer prevelant, back in the days when rubbish collectors were small outfits, all of them were owned by Russians.

Go to a delicatessan. It is almost guaranteed that an Italian will own it.

Why is that? What draws certain groups of people to certain occupations? What are some others besides the ones I mentioned above?

In London, the mix seems to be:

Convenience Stores (including the ubiquitous 'Corner shop') - Indian

Fast-Food outlets(Pizza, kebabs etc) - Turkish or Iranian

Petrol Stations - White British or Indian

Taxi/Minicab services - Afro-Caribbean or Somali

Delicatessen - Arab

Bar staff - Australian/New Zealand/South African

Drunks/Vagrants - Irish

Patels (from Guagarat state) have ruled the american motel/inn business for years.

All small grocery stores in NYC are owned by Koreans, go down to the "Korean deli" one might be heard saying, even if the deli serves no korean food.

convenience stores are actually owned mostly by Pakistanis and Bagladeshis, Indians rule the motels!

Koreans also are huge in the woman's nail business in nyc.

In south florida, the Cubans rule politics. Mayor of Miami, Dade county, everything else...

In CA. alot of Vietnamese and Koreans run donut/bagel shops as well.

Well, I think that maybe people like it, and also why is there more chinese food stores run by chinese people (I went to a restaraunt with my friend and it was owned by chinese.
