My girlfriend recently approached me about hoping on "the pill" and using it as an alternate form of birth control than condoms. She is very psyched about it as she wants for me to ejaculate in her, etc....I am happy about it but am also concerned (as my nature is of someone that worries a great deal) and was wondering about you guys, how many of your g/f's or wives are on it, have used it, know the effectiveness...etc...I really appreciate it.

Until you both have had every blood test known to man, and you can recite all the people this chick even thought about hooking up with.... you'd be an immeasureable fool.

My ex was on it for close to two years and it worked fine. No worries. The only downside was that she gained a bit of weight which is one of the side effects.

The pill is far more effective at preventing babies than condoms. When used properly it is around 99.9% effective vs. 80% for condoms. But babies can still happen, so it is always a risk... but far lower a risk than no pill, no rubber, or pulling out and getting your GF's face messy.

My girlfriend went on the patch (yes, there is a new birth control patch) a couple months ago. No babies, but she has remarked that the side-effects are terrible, and she doesn't like having a sticker on her body 24 hours a day. She's actually going to the doctor today to go on the pill.

ConcordeBoy is correct on this one.
The medical community still debates with itself over how long it really takes for certain diseases to show up in the bloodstream.
If you test negative for a disease today, that doesn't mean that you aren't carrying the disease. It just means that it isn't tripping the test yet.
Sorry to be a downer - but this really a serious matter.

Here is an example, if you contract HIV it can take up to 6 months for the antibodies to show up in a test, in other words untill you will have a positive test.
Yesterday my gf and I of just over 2 years and 6 months came to an end so like really sucks for me at the moment. She was on the pill and everything was fine for us. Just make sure your gf takes the correct pill every day as if you skip one or take the wrong one etc, it can lead to complications, in other words it can become useless and then she can become pregnant but in other words it should be perfect.

It doesnt give me any side affects and i have never had a pregnancy scare.. I think im just one of the lucky ones.

I have been on the pill for twelve years. I don't remember gaining weight when I went on it. It does have the excellent side effect of lighter, more predictable periods with less pain. I've never had any scares, or problems with it.
There are some health risks so make sure your girlfriend has a good chat with her doctor.
And as mentioned above, it does NOT replace condoms when it comes to STD prevention.

The pill can have many different side effects. Some people gain weight and others don't. As a matter of fact most girls now are using the needle. I believe it is call "Dep" and it is only given once every few months. The female will not get her period while using this type of birth control. BUT as ScarletHarlot mentioned above......... it does not stop STD!!!!!!!!

Use the pill AND the condom! If you want to be on the safe side. But it is all about trust between you and your girlfriend. It is only one way to have 100 % free sex. Masturbate!

Unfortunately once you get used to sex w/o condoms, it is sooo hard and disappointing to start wearing them again (when in a new relationship).
after I dated my ex for about 1 year, and knowing each other very well from well before the time we dated (an exceptional case, that I wouldn't apply to other situations), she decided to try the pill, and she stayed on it for the three years we stayed together after that. No problem at all, it worked perfectly.
Today I have to wear that crap each time I'm doing something.. ughh

It claims to be 99% effective. My girlfriend is on it and it works for her, also makes her less of a bitch around mid month than she used to be, just one of the positive side effects.
It won't work at all if your girlfriend smokes, just keep that in mind.

Pills are totally safe if your girlfriend is responsible and take every pill on time. I also think is more effective than condoms, it works chemically, not mechanically as condoms, so it won't brake, it don't split when you take it out.
And if your girfriend has any side effects, there are many different types, so she had to go to her OB and get new pills. My girlfrien did it and we had no troubles.
If you and your girlfriend trust each other, don't cheat each other and positively know both of you are clear from VDs, take the pill, always better than the condom barrier! specially if you are circumcised (which could be the case since you're American), because, although not totally probed, it seems circumcision reduces man's sensibility and hence you don't need more barriers. If you are not sure or you have some "adventures" sometimes, keep using the rubber
Direct sex it's much better than condoms!

alright talking from the girl side of it... I was on the pill got preggo... after having my daughter (2 yrs ago on the 17th) i went on the monthly Lunel shot... I would recommend it... it gives off both estrogen and hormons that you dont gain weight and is very very safe... It has also taken care of the horrible migrains I use to get... i havent had one in 7 months... but is lightens your period and i have mine for like 2 days max, not 5 or so like most people.... or the depo shot, but my friend is on that and said that it gives off too much hormones that she gained some weight...
