I usually just work out at school, but here comes summer rolling around, so it was time to sign up for a health/fitness club.

24 hour fitness was my choice, so I checked out their website. Turns out, with all of the fees for basic enrollment it costs over 300$

NOT INCLUDING:
Personal trainer
food
MONTHLY FEE
nutrition advice

or any of that other stuff they give you...

What a ripoff!

It doesn't take a over-priced gym to make people not 'overweight'.

Nice try though.

Nice try guys, but to get back into shape, is going to the gyms and working out.

Surely you can run/jog and do situps, but what about the other 90% of your body?

BTW - no fat jokes, I've lost weight without 24hr.

The #1 fat burning exercise known to man is free. Running outdoors. Combine running with an altered dietary intake with 6-8 smaller daily meals instead of 3 big meals and you will lose the pounds.

I think its precisely the fact that people think it costs something to remain thin. Just get your lazy ass off the sofa and go run for a while.

It still amazes me. I used to be 230 lbs and I decided to start running. I'm down to 187 now, which is still a little chunky. I LOVE it when some skinny built schmuck challenges me to an endurance test. 1/2 a mile into it he's on the floor heavily breathing... I can go for 14-15 miles.

$300?, that is a rip-off.

I only pay $30 CND/month for all the gym, treadmills and even free sun tanning. Depends where you live I guess.

This + 70? For the love of shit man... Seeing as you're a Mets fan, you'd be lucky to fit into Mo Vaughn's jersey. Looks like you're down around Davey Johnson size these days. Next up, Kevin Mitchell.  Big thumbs up You do seem like a nice guy though.

You don't need a gym to lose weight. Walk more. I enjoy playing basketball and play a few times a week thats my active thing. I am younger so its easier for me to burn but you get the drift. Join a sports team.

I pay roughly 50$ a month at my gym, which actually pretty cheap, since they have a huge area with thread mills, excercise bikes & the likes (and 6 tv screens & a 3x3 foot screen - all tuned to different channels), a huge area with various weight lifting devices, a huge area with various work-out machines and 4 different rooms dedicated to different sorts of workout programs (ie. Spinning, Boxing, Yoga, BodyPUMP/BodyCOMBAT etc.). On top of that, each month, they have various activities you can sign up to, for free. That includes the best way to train muscles, the advantages of a varied excercise program, BMI measuring etc.

Not to mention, there's a fully equipped pool area with spas, saunas & steam room  Big thumbs up

I tend to go there 4-5 times a week, since I do spinning 3 times a week and general workout/weightlifting the other days.

But the best part, is that everybody knows everybody - so in two weeks, we're having a party for the people on the spinning team. Of course, that also means that if you skip training for a day or two, everybody is going to be asking where you were  Laugh out loud

EDIT: Of course, I could "just" go for a run, walk or a ride on my bike, but then I would miss out on the social aspect of going to a gym, where you know a lot of people.

Vafi-

Invest about $100.00 in a good pair of Rollerblades and hit your neighborhood for around 30 minutes a day.

Want to build muscle as well? Push-ups are free. Do 100 of them a day and you'll look and feel a lot better, too.

I guarantee you'll drop weight, provided you're not stuffing your pie-hole the other 23 hours, 30 minutes of each day.  Big grin

hello All,

I'm at Uni. so luckily for me my membership to the gym/sportshall is subsidised, though still c. 150 pounds p.a.

Unlike most people, I am actually trying to put on weight, and though am not under-weight for my height, I am fairly borderline. I find that at the moment I am still able to run for about 4 miles without being utterly exhausted - pretty good considering I haven't been running seriously in about 18 months.
However, stamina is not the problem for me - I think I will bulk-up with more/better food and doing more in the weights room.

Any suggestions - and don't suggest drugs and hormone enhancers as I want to keep it as natural as possible!

Bally's runs about $100 plus a bit extra for the personal trainer.
It's well worth it to get into good excercise habits.

No no no, you guys got it wrong, I know Running is free (I just got back from jogging actually) and I do situps/crunches most nights.

The fact is, there's not a lot you can do to get rid of certain parts of the body, like thighs or butts. I surely can drop weight in my stomach and upper body, but there are areas which will just look weird with the rest of the body while thin.

Plus, I need to pump up my arms, they've been lookin a little shaggy lately.

Seriosuly I think the term "overweight" is one of the most uverused and under defined words in the English vocabulary.
These ladies I posted would be considered overweight yet I don't think they need to loose an ounce.

Hell I am a bit overweight according to my doctor but I need beer to function.  Smile

I used to be 220 lbs now I'm down to 170, that's a 50 pounds loss. The trick? Running, walking, taking the stairs ( I live on the 7th floor), keeping active in general and on top of it all eating better.

I'll sign up to a gym when it gets to cold to go out to run but for now it's all outdoors baby.
