Reasonably Priced Hotels At DUS

I am after a convenient but REASONABLE airport hotel at DUS for 2 nights (15-17th September). At the moment, all hotels I've seen - even Holiday Inn - charge a fortune. Any cheaper ones?

Also, what's the best way of reaching DUS from Dusseldorf's hbf?

I think there's an Arabella Sheraton there as well - but I just checked in Expedia: they seem to be fully booked... is there a convention going on then???

Just asking (about the convention), because more than half of the hotels I could find are full...

I guess the one you've got is the HI DUS APT Ratingen, right? From what it looks like (at least on Expedia), I'd say go for it...

From the Hauptbahnhof, I'd say the best way to get to the airport is by train - S-Bahn, RE and ICE trains run between the two points (you can check http://www.bahn.de for details) at quite short intervals.

Frank

Hi James,

I am heading out to DUS/CGN soon and am looking at staying at the Ibis Hauptbahnhof http://www.bookings.org/ibishauptbahnhof.de.en.html

Can be booked on Ibis official site as well, of course. Rates seem pretty good and seems to be in city centre and also very good links to the airport.

Ben - do you know how to reach the hotel using public transport from the airport?

You'd reach that hotel from the airport the same way you'd reach the airport from the Hauptbahnhof (since the hotel is directly at the Hauptbahnhof): just hop on one of the trains and you're there in minutes.

Frank

Grrr that hotel isn't available on the dates I wish to travel. Typical! Whenever I try to go to DUS, there's ALWAYS a damn fair on!

Try www.bestwestern.com. I recommend the BW Savon on Oststr., which is quite good located (near to Altstadt, Koenigsallee, Schadowstr, main station and so on).

Otherwise check the hotel reservation page www.hrs.de for free hotel reservations in Duesseldorf.

I've stayed at the Ibis a few times, its convenient for the airport by train and good for choice of eating establishments for the evening.

Try the IBIS Hauptbahnhof, @ Euros 69.-/night, a good treat because it´s easy to get there from airport with the S-Bahn. Breakfast @ Euros 9.- is not cheap but it´s OK for what you get.

You don´t have to spend on taxi to get to your hotel or cram into trams/buses. From the HbF you can easily get to all destinations and back... even late should Altstadt tempt too much! Have fun in DUS!

The IBIS Hauptbahnhof is a nice hotel - but the front of the main station (where the hotel is located) isn't one of the best in Duesseldorf.

Another possibility is the new "InterCity Hotel" on Graf-Adolf-Str. (ca. 200 metres from the main station). Very beautiful hotel, historic front, good breakfast, good location,...
(only sad that a discotheque closed for it).

Hi, I don't know the fares but I've spent several nights at Avidon Airport Hotel. Its about 1km off the airport and a very, very nice little hotel. www.avidon.de (only in German?) or go to hotel.de or something allowing booking and providing information in English.

I can really recommend that hotel.

Go for the hotel close to Hauptbahnhof, for breakfast take a little walk to Koenigsallee and find a nice buffet in one of the passages or in the "Sevens" building, no more than 15 minutes walk.

And when you take the train to the airport, for Christ's sake don't use the ICE, but the S-Bahn. ICE is not meant to be used for short-distance, and it'll cost you dearly (!!!).

Have fun!

I know it's only VfB but I like it!
