More DUMBA$$ Comments from him.
Kuala Lumpur- Malaysia's just retired Prime Minister has not lost his taste for cooking up controverisal views.

Now Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is calling on Arabs and Muslims to withdraw their US-dollar deposits from the United States, and to use oil as a weapon against the world's only superpower...............

In an interview with Mingguan Malaysia, the Sunday edition of the biggest-selling newspaper Utusan Malaysia, Tun Mahathir also charged that President George W. Bush of the US and his challenger John Kerry would not dare to stand up against Israel for fear of losing political ground.................

"I have spoken about using oil as a weapon. Apart from that, the Arabs keep a lot of money in the US. If we pull out the money, the US can immediately become bankrupt................

If we use this strategy, I believe it will be more effective than tying a bomb to your body and blowing up people,' said Tun Mahathir, who retired last October after 22 years in office......................

Then, repeating what he said during one of his last speeches as premier to the Organisation of Islamic Countries, he said: 'This is why I say that Israel rules the world by proxy.'

Clearly, it's a good thing he's retired. I'm rather not surprised to hear such comments from him...Go Figure.

What good would it bring if the US goes bankrupt??? The entire global economy will collapse and that includes Malaysia whereby US is our #1 trade partner. Perhaps he should revise his Economy 101 textbook before making such comments.

Just to make it clear to everyone that Mahathir is no more!  Big thumbs up Our new PM Abdullah Badawi is a much more pragmatic leader. I'm glad that Mahathir was not made a Senior Minister like Lee Kuan Yew in Singapore. We've had enough of him, thank you very much...

I have spoken about using oil as a weapon.

Hmm, it would be kind of interesting to see what would happen if the Middle Eastern oil producers got together and turned the taps off for the US for a while. Who would hurt the most the quickest?

How long before Dubya would decide to 'liberate' some more of them?

Hey AA, the 1960s called. They want their planes back!

Everybody has spoken about using oil as a weapon, nobody does anything. It does make sense as it won't kill anybody (directly), just screws a number of first world countries up for a number of years. Everybody knows that research will never be done with other sources of fuel, so we are and will be depended for a damn long time. The nice thing about this is that it won't happen, foreign oil countries are already way too cozy with the west, they will loose serious money if they do which screws up thier economy in the process unless they do it right. Like maybe over produce one year and under produce the next when you cut a customer off but keeping the over production aside, you may still have enough to sell as if you were producing enough.

Maybe that won't work (I don't think they have the infrastructure for that), it won't happen anyway cuz those that really want to make a difference, kill themselves and others. Those suicide bombers rally up so much support, if they did not kill anyone, imagine the power they could have had...such a waste of leadership.

Where is Anwar Ibrahim these days? Wonder what Badawi's view of Anwar is. From what I understand, Anwar places Badawi quite high on the list of people he dislikes?

As to Mahatir, I think he might have a new pet project keeping him busy these days.

Sure the quickest would be the USA, but in the long run the ones that would be hurt would be themselves. If this wasnt the case then OPEC would set their oil prices higher every year, but THEY KNOW THIS WILL ONLY DO ONE THING..speed up the use of alternative fuels. Europe, by the way, gets a higher percentage of oil from the Middle East than the US(For geographic reasons). In the long run advanced DIVERSIFIED(The most diversified economy on Earth) economies like the US will find ways to go around the problem.

Mahathir is still stupid, just as he was when he blamed currency speculators for his country's meltdown in the late 90s...he thought it was Geoge Soros' fault.

That website is obviously a joke... calling for a boycott of American goods and services on Yahoo! Geocities is kinda of ironic.

Um, the whole website link just seemed like a really big patriotic rant, like most, cept the bottom, which claimed those who support Israel are zionist sympathizers. Sounds a bit over the top to me, don't think it was necessary. Although those who believe in the opposite are part of the loud right on this forum... Insane

Regards to topic, if any country had the balls to isolate themselves to make political change elsewhere (ironic), go for it.

Yes! Let us boycott American products while I bring this message to you via a site owned by Americans and nonetheless supports the American economy. Makes SOOOOO much sense.  Yeah sure

Oh my. that is the funniest website i have visited all year! I like the part below talking about list of shops to avoid. Simply Hilarious!!

Anyway despite his stupid comments, Mahathir did transform Malaysia to what it is today: South East Asia's most prosperous nation after Singapore.

If anyone wants to bring up Anwar into this debate - perhaps one ought to remember that Anwar did come from an Islamic fundamentalist background and was famously photographed burning the US flag a few years ago...
