They are ugly, loud, and creepy-and 1 1/2 inches long.their freaking cicadas!here in washington DC the little bugs are emerging from the ground, after 17 years.Last time the billions of insects came was in 1983-and the next time will be in 2021.Some people say its a rare event and lucky to experiance, others say its horrible.I dont care.I didnt even know what the f**k was the big deal until today.well i guess for the next 2-4 weeks its insect land in DC.

I remember seeing (and HEARING!!) those noisy things when I was in Maryland. Those Cicada skins would be all over the place after they hatch.
I've seen Cicadas here in California but they are barely an inch long and are not as common as they are out east. You can often find them out in the desert and they make long and high pitch buzzing noises.

They're not out in Indiana yet (supposedly one of the hottest cicada areas in the US). For you fisherman, use a Jitterbug or Hocus Locus near a shore lined with forest. The bass will hammer them about 2-3 days after they start for about a week. I'm looking forward to the shells my son will collect off the trees. Nothing like a bushel of hollow cicada carcasses (or is that carci?).
