Hong Kong Bus Accident Record

Some serious and famous bus accidents happened in Hong Kong are recorded here.

22 July 1973
A single-deck Austin (AP2031) of New Lautau Bus fell down into a valley near Keung Shan Road. 17 people were killed and 26 injured.

12 July 1974
3 people died and 9 injured when a KMB Leyland Atlantean (2L28/BD5108) crashed into a bridge on Kwai Chung Road and overturned. The route 50 bus was operating from Yuen Long to Jordan Road Ferry.

25 February 1977
A Leyland Viking 55 of KMB (L286/BK8210) crashed into a supermarket at Shek Kong and exploded, six people killed and 22 injured. The accident occured when the route 51 bus just left Route TWISK and turning into Kam Tin Road during the trip to Yuen Long.

22 November 1978
A KMB Albion single-deck bus (L77/HK4578) crashed down an embarkment in Wan Wah Street, 2 people died and 27 injured. The bus was operating on route 3A.

22 July 1979
A CMB driver drove a broken-down Fleetline (LF180/BP1055) and collided into the queue of passengers at North Point Ferry Pier, five people died and 46 injured.

12 October 1980
A KMB route 87 Fleetline (D1031/BV5003) overturned on Lung Chung Road during the trip from Lek Yuen to Tai Kok Tsui Ferry, a man died and 49 people injured.

1 December 1980
The first serious accident of Leyland Victory II happened. A KMB route 70 bus (G217/CH2048) overturned at the junction of Nathan Road and Waterloo Road, one person killed and 55 people injured.

23 August 1981
Four people were killed and 29 injured when an ambulance and a KMB Leyland Victory II (G94/CC5478) collided head-on on Tuen Mun Highway. Both vehicles burst into flames. The route 66M bus was running from Mong Kok MTR Station to Tai Hing.

14 November 1982
A Leyland Victory II of KMB (G440/CV4933) overturned after crashing into the hillside and spinning around, causing one person died and 109 people injured. The route 60M bus was going downhill on Tuen Mun Highway during the trip to On Ting.

28 January 1984
14 parents and children were collided by a CMB Guy Arab V (LX326/CT5776) on the pavement of Wong Nai Chung Road, 6 people were killed.

11 March 1984
A passenger killed and 38 injured in the accident involving a KMB Daimler (D285/AD4741). The bus collided with 2 vehicles and overturned during the trip on route 78K towards Sha Tau Kok.

13 March 1986
A KMB Dennis Dragon (3N50/DD6266) crashed into the pedestrian safety island in Quarry Bay during the trip on route 102. Two people killed and 6 people injured.

2 June 1986
A Leyland Viking 55 of KMB (L282/BK4972) and a coach crashed head-on on Kam Tin Road, one killed and 48 injured. The brake of the route 51 bus was failed when it running downhill on Route TWISK towards Kam Tin.

5 November 1986
Five were killed and 58 injured when a KMB Leyland Victory II (G470/CW4123) overturned at the junction of Ming Kum Road and Shek Pai Tau Road. The route 61A bus was operating from Butterfly Estate to Yuen Long.

23 August 1992
A NLB Isuzu (ILS15/DV5110) fell down an embankment near Shek Pik Reservior after collided with another NLB bus (ILS31/EL3479), 26 people injured.

4 November 1992
A Daimler Fleetline of CMB (XF46/CH8794) overturned when it was operating on route 85 and running downhill on Chai Wan Road, the driver died and 30 injured.

25 July 1993
A Leyland Victory II of KMB (G305/CM2157) overturned after turning from Hung Tin Road to Ping Ha Road. 40 passengers of the route 69M bus were injured.

12 December 1994
44 injured when a Leyland Atlantean of Citybus (600/FS8765) overturned after crashing into the hillside on Shek Pai Wan Road. The bus was running on route 48 towards Wong Chuk Hang Estate. the newspaper talk about the accident

13 December 1994
A KMB Dennis Dragon (3N106/DJ6989) and a CMB Leyland Fleetline (LF213/BR5378) collided at the junction of Yen Chow Street and Un Chau Street, a driver killed and 13 people injured.

6 November 1996
A passenger died and 10 injured when a Citybus Leyland Olympian (202/FD8653) crashed into a steel wire hanging across a road in Shenzhen. The bus was operating on Border route 512 towards Shenzhen Bay.

30 January 1998
A Dennis Dragon air-conditioned bus of Citybus (870/HD935) overturned on Tonnochy Road flyover during the trip towards Sham Shui Po on route 118. 5 people died and 54 injured.
