Memorial day in DC was an inspiring, great event. All of the WWII veterans in town made it memorable. Many of them were friendly and willing to share their stories, which were fascinating.

It was really nice to talk with people about things that are good with America, and worth fighting for - instead of the daily partisan debate (of which I am sometimes a participant!).

My mother, now 82, was a Navy telegraph operator during WW II. This was a great weekend for her.

Here are a few night-time photos for anyone who couldn't be here.

I imagine a monument like that stirred some emotions on Memorial day. It is a fitting monument to the sacrifices made by brave Americans in war.

These pics are the first time I have been able to get a good look at the WWII memorial. I remember one of the big concerns was how it would destroy the flow and openness of the National Mall. But that shot across the reflecting pool from the Lincoln Memorial definately tells another story. It frames the base of the Washington Monument quite nicely and still keeps that open feeling. And inside it has the appropriate level of grandeur.

Not just Americans who gave that are remembered...all the men and women who died or grievously wounded will never be forgotten. Great pics.
