An unholy row has broken out over Madonna's membership of the controversial Kabbalah spiritual movemment.
The 45 year old has been branded a 'slut' by Cheif Jewish Rabbi Shmuley Boteach.
Writing for somethingjewish.co.uk he told Kabbalah head Philip Berg:'Do us all a favour and dump Madonna as your principal spokesman. Sorry to be crass, but Madonna is a slut. Yes, she may sing and she may dance. But she is famous for being a slut.'
He added: 'Is the Kabbalah Center really so desperate that it is prepared to promote itself through a vulgarian whose main contribution to the culture is porn rock?'
Madonna's spokesman, Liz Rosenburg, described the rabbi's attacks as 'vile'. She said; 'I suggest this man take a look at his own character, and the problem he has'.

I think they're right, Madonna is a terrible face for Kerbala Judaism, cos it diminishes the religion to a fad-ish indulgence by an overpampered, disconnected superstar, rather than a spiritual pursuit. I certainly think a celebrity endorsement is a major turn-off when it comes to religion.

NO, she just likes being photographed nude, having sex with anything that moves (she did Rodman, 'nuff said) and singing songs about giving it up....Theres nothing there that indicates she is a slut.
Oh, wait....her spokesman did say during the Atlanta Gold Club (a high class Mafia owned strip club where professional athletes where receiving oral favors in the VIP room) court fiasco, where the King of Sweden no less was subpoenad to testify, that while she did not recall taking a dancer home for three way sex, that there is nothing wrong with it and that she would do it if the fancy struck her.......I do not know if that qualifies her as a slut in some peoples lexicons, but it certainly qualifies her as a really cool chick!
Remember, most people define a slut as someone who has sex with alot of people, and a b#tch as someone who has lots of sex with people other than them.

Well, she is a slut, but I also prefer the term skank, as well. But I also like the old fashioned term harlot as well.

Screw Madonna (no pun intended) - if he was so concerned about the face of this new pop religion, he would have mentioned Britney and her very unfortunate tatoos

Where has this guy been the last 20 years, under a rock somewhere. Hello, she's been a slut for quite a few years now, how else do you think she got where she is? By talent alone? Hello!

CPH-R, Britney doesn't follow kabbalah (which is part of the Jewish religion), but Madonna does.

I guess Mr. Boteach doesn't believe in forgiveness. Although Madonna has led quite a remarkable life and has demonstrated quite loose moral standards, I think she's shown remarkable progress with respect to adhering to general religious moral standards.
She now leads a relatively decent life as a mother of 2. Does Mr. Botech think that we should simply give up on people because of their history? Are all sins irreconcilable?

Airplay, the new testament is the part of the bible that is big on forgiveness.
The old testament is the crime and punishment part.

MD-90,
are you sure about that? I've seen the pics numerous times, and if I remember correctly, they mention that she's joined the same religion as Madonna.
Just picked this up through a Google search:
The Daily Mail is reporting:
Britney's first steps towards regaining her squeaky-clean reputation have come at the urging of her estranged parents Lynne and Jamie.
She has been attending regular services at the Central Bible Church in Inglewood, California.
At one she was seen sobbing on her father's shoulder.
"With her father's guidance, Britney realised she had reached a spiritual low and that God was the only answer," said a friend.
"Her family told her that they loved her very much but that they couldn't stand by and watch her destroy her life and her career.
"They told her she needed to get back on her feet and return to traditional values, and that included Christianity."
Hollywood conversions are notorious. Add her dalliance with Kabalah and this could be just wishful thinking on the part of her parents.

I don't listen to religion at all, I don't believe in it. I think all religion is the cause for war and suffering even though they protest against it, and its all a world wide cult which will eventually die out.
Once again a relgious leader trying to get in the headlines.

Easy now. The Rabbi is merely highlighting the interesting relationship between the Kabbalah and mainstream Judaism. The mystical teaching are something that have always been a part of Judaism, but somewhat relegated to the fringes and to those who are taking part of extreme studies. Traditionally these teachings have not been offered until the age of 40, when an individual has completed extensive studies in the Torah and the Talmud. The issues involved are very complex but deal with the study of the nature of G-d, the universe, and the supernatural.
Some take Kaballah very seriously, to others it is a strange curiosity, or even outright nonsense. One Rabbi described it as, "it's nonsense, but it's Jewish nonsense, and the study of anything Jewish, even nonsense, is worthwhile." or as another put it, "crap-balah".
What Rabbi Shmuley Boteach seemes peeved about is most likely the fact that it's doubtful Madonna has completed the near life-time of torah religious studies traditionally necessary to tackle such material properly. The Kaballah teachings can be considered dangerous and irresponsible if pursued in the wrong manner. The Rabbi apparently detests the further corruption of Kaballistic teachings into a pop-culture or practical Kaballah that distorts much of the original teachings which have suffered enough under the hands of individuals throughout history who have distorted and taken teachings out of context, and flat out corrupted them.
Oh, and forgiveness of sin is very prominent in Jewish teachings and writings. The process includes prayer, correcting any wrongs, and aspiring never to do the same deed again.

I agree with the Rabbi. Madonna did the same thing to Hinduism when she was in that phase. Dressing herself like a goddess and promoting fads like Henna, all she did was make the religion into a fad and spread even more ignorance of the religion in this country.
