Over a the past three years reports are available.

The drop occurred from the years 1998 to 2001

The majority of the pollutants are from Coal fired facilities with all but 4 of the top 50 being coal power plants. Chemical pollutant releases from industry dropped 18%

28% of the pollution in North American came from four areas, Texas, Michigan, Ontario, and Ohio.

NO!!!!!!!! The Kyoto Protocol would economically punish the US in spite of the 10% drop in pollution, yet apply no consequence to poorer countries whose pollution INCREASED by 10%.

Ontario has some very high polluting coal generating power plants. The problem though is that our nuclear plants are not reliable so we need the coal generators.

Ironically, 14 of the 50 worst polluters in North America are actually recycling plants -- incredible eh?

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

Bush already said that he is ready to impliment Kyoto as soon as it is made equally applicable to China, India and a few other nations. So what's the holdup on that?

God I hope not...hopefully he'll just flush it down the toilet where it belongs like the original version.

Well if everybody where held to the same standard in that treaty, it would be one thing.

But they aren't, and there is the reaosn that treaty will never be ratified by the US senate as written now.

Ok another debate question here.

Just was watching the remake of the "Italian Job" and that scene where they are stripping all of the smog gear out of the Mini Coopers to get the weight down.

Those smog control systems on cars do require energy to run, and that energy comes from fuel, so milage suffers.

Is it better to keep the smog systems and have clean air, or do away with some of them and have more energy efficent cars?

>> "Air Pollution In North America Dropped 10%" <<

Would that be Canada or Mexico?

Well it makes sense to hold different countries to different standards as we are all of differing technological capabilities. Appling the same to eveyone would either force one country in the hole while it would be too easy for another. Plus there is the possibility of contradition by which country puts out more polution for their technical capability.

I think the point is to fix the planet in small steps, not be done by tomorrow so we can all go about our business as usual.

The meaning of life is curiosity; we were put on this planet to explore opportunities.
