it's not as bad in the US yet as in Europe.
The only way the Dutch can get vollunteers for duty abroad is by offering the troops who sign up a guarantee that they won't be fired for at least 6 months after they get back.
We're currently cutting a third or so of our armed forces each and every year...

l-188 you said it brother. The military drawdown for the 'peace dividend' was a disaster as far as morale and readiness went. Luckily the buildup of the 80's left us in a good position as far as leadership cadre, at least with the ones who were allowed to stay. I ets'd before things got bad, according to my buddies.

Actually DI021, I would argue that the leadership bubble was bursting in the drawdown, as the last of the draftee army started to retire, those where the ones that lived in the extremely regimented army of the past and had to live in a military where standards where actually enforced.
Some of the rules did need to be revised but I think that it can be argued that standards have gone down since 1991.
OBAMA-WORST PRESIDENT EVER....Even SKOORB would be better.

GHWB is anything *but* a dumbass - he's a fine American and a more than capable individual. His greatest life accomplishments came long before his ascendancy to the White House. Unfortunately, Junior wasn't one of them.
Back to the point, anyone who outright dismisses George Bush Sr. is either woefully ignorant or doesn't know a thing about the man's life.
Happy Birthday to an all around great American.
