During the regular season of the NBA, I heard something on some basketball shows that the New Jersey Nets were going to move from East Rutherford,NJ to Brooklyn, NY or somewhere else on Long Island. Does anyone know what the current situation is with that?

The whole arena issue in NJ is crazy. About 5 years ago the Nets had been talking about building an arena in Newark, and plans were that the NJ Devils would be a tenant as well, if they abandoned the idea of building an arena in Hoboken. Neither of these plans ever went too far, and now the Devils are going to be the tenant at a new arena being proposed in Newark. With the Nets now owned by a group led by developer Bruce Ratner, who is developing Brooklyn Atlantic Yards, a mixed use development with the Brooklyn Arena as its' focal point. If the 20,000 seat arena is built (there is some NIMBYs trying to block the entire development), the Nets would move to Brooklyn, and there are also rumors that the New York Islanders may call Brooklyn home as well.

As an Islanders fan, I hope I never see the day when the Isles move out of the Colissium and go to Brooklyn or somewhere else.

Are there any plans to build a new Madison Square Garden?? When did the current Garden open.....1968?? Still an attractive arena, but the costs of maintaining that place have got to be huge.

The fourth MSG opened in 1968, and had a $200 million renovation in 1991.

Here's a pretty decent site on various sporting venues:
