Thoughts, analysis and predictions please.
England "only" need a draw, but don't be fooled, Spain only needed a draw against Portugal also, but they ended up being eliminated. England have to improve their game or it could end in tears, we need to pass the ball better and keep posession when things heat up. We were in the same position in Euro 2000 and ended up going out against Romania.
The Croatians are mentality strong and have a lot of technical ability, as they showed against France, they are definitely no pushovers and i can see England getting knocked out if they're not careful. However tricky this game is, England should get through, if they don't, well that's too bad and we'll have no one to blame but ourselves. If England are to win it (and i'm not convinced yet) we have to beat the likes of Croatia and maybe even France again.
It should be a good game of football, Croatia have to win and they'll push England all the way, i just hope the England players fulfill their potential.

As I pointed out earlier, it would be a cruel and unusual punishment for you guys to get kicked out by anybody else but Germany, you are used to that historically and you wouldn't have a problem there . Therefore I wish you the best to move on to the quarterfinals!

The problem with Spain last night was that they approached the game in the wrong way. Going out a playing for a draw is not in the English mentality, it's win or bust with us unlike sides from the continent (I know it's mostly lose before you German's start ), and the good news it that we can't go out on penalties yet . England win 1-0 in a nervous affair with Owen getting on the score sheet finally.

Oh yeah? There are sides from the continent, that are able to play for a draw and do succeed? Well, humour me then...name a few...or at least one! (Don't even try to come up with Germany...everybody knows that's hogwash!)

If the England-Croatia match ends in a draw, then Switzerland would have to win by more than 3 goals .

Bah, that Rooney player is overrated!
I think England played well in the first half, the only problem was the lack of conviction in attack (Only Rooney had a shot from outside the box besides Gerrards deflected shot, and he scored), too many silly balls that didn't come off. England had most of the possession and Croatia were poor, didn't deserve their goal either.
Congratulations to Switzerland for equalizing against France, lets hope they can get a winner (or four ) in the second half.

Rooney is a bastard, but a talented bastard. Duel of the worst goalkeepers in the tournament tonight, I guess. Croatia don't look dangerous enough to score even one more goal, even though the English basically refused to defend they failed to become dangerous in front of the goal. Why the hell is Terry playing (or rather messing around) again instead of King?
I feel a bit insulted by the French. They play as if this was not the Euro 2004 but the sunshine-beach tournament in Lloret de Mar. Still, they will go through as well (and might even win the whole thing...)

Wow, England, great game! And England-Portugal will be quite beautiful, as well!
Walk together, talk together all ye peoples of the earth. Then, and only then, shall ye have peace.
25 Ryanb741: To all the impartial observers from other countries - what did you think of England? Do they look like a team that can go all the way? Or are the defe
26 AviationMaster: England can and probably will go all the way. I think this might well be your tournament With a player like Rooney, chances of reaching minimum the se
27 Horus: It's only fair we give a quick mention to Shrek a.k.a Rooney!
28 Saintsman: Not a bad game at all. Perhaps the referee had something to do with it? We still don't look too good at the back though. We've got to get much tighter
29 Racko: Well, if you defend like this against Portugal, you're doomed. But your players have the ability to play better, and I'm sure that we'll see a better
30 Ryanb741: Well in that case I am hoping the Germans beat the Czechs As an aside - there was an interesting article in today's Evening Standard regarding the fai
31 Ryanb741: One thing I was thinking is that Owen is a great striker who has played pretty average this tournament. If he starts scoring and Rooney continues, we
32 Pelican: It was a very attractive game. If it wasn't England who won the game I would say the winning team has an extraordinary assault (especially shrek) and
33 GKirk: I hate to admit this but England looked pretty good tonight. However, I believe Portugal will be a much bigger obstacle for them to overcome. Interest
34 MartinairYYZ: Portugal will "Whoop 'em good" just like they deserve....... bunch of arrogant hooligans. Although now as bad as Brazil, I still have a great dismay f
35 Ryanb741: WTF are you talking about Martinair? Where the hell are England arrogant? In fact, after the game Rooney played down his performance. Sounds like you
36 Andreas: Well congrats...and good morning! (Did I say this???...Good Lord ) Ok, nice game, also thanx to the Croatians, who tried to play along instead of tryi
37 BCal DC10: Great result for England - we looked on top of it throughout, and as Ericsson said, if we play like we did in the first 45 mins, we'll be pretty hard
38 Zweed: Whoever claimed Rooney being overrated doesnt have a clue about football.
39 GKirk: "Where the hell are England arrogant?" Starting at the commentators, going right the way through the team. I think the only one of them that isnt arro
40 Arsenal@LHR: Ronney overated? LMFAO!! You need to watch some football my friend. Shrek is the hottest property in European football. H'e just trebled his wages and
41 Gman94: Well Rooney is overrated when he his compared to Pele. He's good but not that good.
42 Arsenal@LHR: That's where you are wrong, no one is and no one should compare him to Pele now (maybe later on in his career)
43 Gman94: Sven has compared him to Pele. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/euro_2004/3828041.stm
44 Arsenal@LHR: That's where the danger lies, when we start comparing him to other great players we put too much pressure on him. Just let the boy play his game.
45 Andreas: Actually it's more dangerous to compare him to Gascoigne..he might try to follow in Gazza's footsteps
46 GKirk: Gazza was much better than Rooney ever will be though.
47 DC-10 Levo: Croatian players describe him as "The new Maradona". Great result! DC-10
48 Ryanb741: You can't gompare Gazza with Rooney as Rooney is a striker and Gazza a midfielder. Gazza was more technically gifted but Rooney has raw agression and
49 Andreas: *Yawn*...must be the whisky you guys had last night...I'm talking about how Gazza ruined his whole life...alcohol, violence etc....
50 Ryanb741: So England has the new maradona in attack, and the new David Seaman in goal. Should make an interesting game against Portugal - 4-3 to England anybody
51 GKirk: Andreas, true, but Gazza was an extremly gifted talent, albeit, he may have perhaps wasted it by moving to Italy at the time he did, perhaps he should
52 Andreas: Ryan: True, Seaman was what we call in Germany a Fliegenfänger, a catcher of flies, which is not a very nice thing to say to a keeper, but tocompare

55 Scotty: Well done England. A great performance. Rooney was class. I watched with the sound turned down cos these feckin comentators are just the biggets bunch
