Rabenschalg,

Just a quick correction, at the end, we then say..."where's my bud light?" Most of us are tying to go for the low carbs.

Yeah, and North Korean president Kim Jong Il wants Kerry elected too. AS well as Fidel Castro, and numerous leaders of Great countries.

So since when do we allow 48 individual peoples the only say in who becomes a US president?

48 people whose combined IQ is greater than that of Arkansas, Kansas and Nebraska combined ! And anyway, they're not deciding who is President, they are simply making a suggestion. It's a free country.

JGPH1,
Your post would have been just as effective if you would have said they're not deciding who is President, they are simply making a suggestion. It's a free country and not given that derrogatory comment prior to this statement.

The comment was not to indicate that the 3 states in question have low IQ - they are just not very densely populated, is all ! Exaggeration for effect, no insult intended.

Why? He seems to be doing rather well under Bush.

I've been waiting for such a brilliant and witty comment probably coming from an MBA, right? Well, since these 48 do not say a single word about economics I guess it's safe to say: They stick to their field of expertise, unlike certain other people!!  Big grin

And us economists are definitely NOT better politicians than others, don't overestimate yourself!

Dunno.
Was never a Clinton fan, and even less inclined to visit Arkansas.
So, I guess its time for you to pull your Clinton Obsession-meter (that handy-dandy toy to satisfy the lusty pants of every rightwinger's Clinton mania) out of your ass and consult it for answers.

Jay,

In your typical fashion, you attack me instead of addressing the issue. I'm not Clinton obsessed in any way. If you read my posts, you'd see that I believe that WJC did many good things in his public service and also made many bad decisions in his private life.

Your post implicitly attacks the intelligence of millions of people living in a couple of states. I was just pointing out that the people in one of those states had the intelligence (or lack thereof - depending on one's political persuasion) to elect WJC their governor a couple of times and set him up to be POTUS.

Jay, you need to find a way to address your anger. Perhaps getting out from behind your desk and going into court like a real lawyer would allow you to funnel that rage into more productive channels.

Yeah, and the KKK and the Aryan Nation and the like prefer Bush get re-elected, Galaxy5. If you want to pull extremists out of your butt for one side, you might as well pull them out on the other. Note: WHO CARES WHAT THE EXTREMISTS ON EITHER SIDE WANT. All you did is show again you appalling ignorance.

So what?

The Nobel prizes have been a joke ever since they started giving them for political reasons to people like the terrorist Arafat, the U.N. and Jimmy Carter.

Andreas -

I'm certainly not discounting the importance of science or medicine have on civilization, not attacking the intelligence of any of these scientist. However, as members of Pres. Clinton's campaign staff astutely stated, "It's the economy stupid," referring to the fact that US presidential elections are largely determined on the economic condition of the country.

As such I find it remarkable that Sen Kerry couldn't find a single Noble Prize winner in economics to endorse him and his economic policies.

That being said, my degrees are in accounting (undergrad and grad), finance (post-bacc) and poly sci (post bacc). No MBA for me.

What area of economics do you specialize in?

I think its very telling that men like Harold Varmus (former director of the NIH, and current Head of Sloan Kettering) and David Baltimore who head up enormous cutting-edge research institutions and are not only major scientists but also men who manage multi-billion dollar institutions have endorsed Kerry.

B757300, is there a single Nobel Peace prize on that list? No? OK, so, before you start saying that Nobel prizes are shit, just try to make the difference between scientific ones (even if I doubt economics would fit into that field  Big thumbs up, just a joke), and the Nobel Peace prize, which I agree, has become extremely political.

Jay,

You are absolutely right. The intelligence of these people cannot be discounted, but likewise, the fact that not a single Nobel Prize winner in economics has signed on sends a message.

You really have no idea what the historical impact of Varmus and Baltimore on R&D and the management of huge scientific budgets and personnel are, do you?
