a true friend is someone who sees the pain in your eyes, while everyone else believes the smile on your face.

universal studios is close by~ and yes, cost of living is high...the people are impressively respectful and courteous, and the Japanese train system is amazing.

Basically since Japan is a highly standardize society inside the country everywhere so few things with Osaka are prominent compared to other places in Japan.
Nevertheless, as a resident in Tokyo I can give you some staffs regarding Osaka. Some of them are common throuout in Japan, some are unique in Osaka.

-If you don't learn Japanese it is not exaggeration to say that 8-9 people in 10 walking on the town would not understand what you say in English.
-English spoken by Non native English are likely to be understood by the accent.
-Osaka has a heavy accent spoken through out the century. People from Osaka living in other city would not like to straighten their accent to Standard
Japanese accent because of their pride as Osaka people. Meanwhile people from rural cities and country side, except Osaka and Kyoto, tend to hide their
accent in front of people in Tokyo. This is especially true to people from Northern part of Japan.
-Foreign people who have already mastered Japanese to an extent may find it
difficult to comprehend Osaka accent. But in the business situation with foreign people, Osaka people would try to talk in Standad Japanese.
-Manzai comedy is originated by Osaka, so not a few Japanese are reminded of
Manzai comedy when they hear Osaka accent. If a foreign people masters
Osaka accent and use it in a serious situation, the listener may put up with

Cost of living;
-I cannot feel the cost of living being high since I am used to standard Japanese cost.
-But when you eat out in Osaka, you would be more fulfilled at the same expense than in most of other cities in Japan. Dishes are nicest with pleasing
volume for reasonable prices. SUSHI, OKONOMIYAKI, TAKOYAKI and so on.
-When you rent a room they have a unique but unpleasant custom ;
the renter require to deposit huge amount of money ($2000-$4000) in the
renter as guarantee called SHIKIBIKI, even if rental fee is $300 a month. When you rent it back , not a small amount is charged to mend the room out of the deposit. Sometimes nothing is paid back. That sometime becomes court matter. But as to this, if you an employee, the company will take good care of you.

Oh I don't have enough time,I will post further if you like.
