Well Colombia defeated Bolivia 1-0 and is the first team in the quarterfinals, however it was a truly boring game, none of the teams deserved to win; and once again, it looks like Bolivians did not see the France Vs. England game and the Chile Vs. Brazil game....ok, I undestand that Bolivians do not care too much about Chile  Big grin .

Colombian team has to improve a lot they are not playing really well and perhaps this two wins are only because they were against two of the weakest teams at the moment.

Peru Vs. Venezuela is starting...lets see what will happen. (I hope they tie)

Good for Colombia!
I hope Chile will revert the situation on sunday!
And, BTW, I'm sure Bolvia cares A LOT about Chile...

Here we go again... Brazil wins a game ilegally.

Ever since the 2002 qualifyers all thru that game with Chile, I don't think Brazil has won two games in a row without a referee helping them out.

We'll see if next game it's a fake penalty or a offside goal that gives them a win against Costa Rica... Embarrassment

Anyone watching the Uruguay-Ecuador game besides me? Diego Forlan just scored on a strike from outside the box. It was a decent shot but the goalkeeper could have done better. 1-0 Uruguay.

I agree with you Phxairfan, it was a spectacular shot but the keeper had a nightmare. It's what the game needed though, not very exciting at the moment.

1-1 Franklin Salas off the cross. Game seems to be a bit more exciting now. I'm watching the game in Spanish which I only understand about 1/4 of. On the equalizer did they say anything about the Ecuadorian player that got pulled down in the goal box? Salas scored but if he wouldn't have would there be a penalty?

How bout the excitement now, 2-1 Uruguay 81st minute.

Well, 1st phase has just ended and we saw a few surprises:

Neither Brazil, Argentina nor Peru were able to win their groups.
Chile was eliminated in the first round, truly unbelievable, perhaps they did not feel good playing in Peruvian soil, now the only Chilean remaining in the cup, besides perhaps a referee, is Lan Peru Big grin (No pun intended)

Well, anyway, Quarterfinal games are set :
Saturday: Peru vs. Argentina
Colombia vs. Costa Rica

Sunday: Uruguay vs. Paraguay
Brazil vs. México.

I think we Colombians should be satisfied, also beause we do not have to travel as much as for example Brazil, and Costa Rica should be an easy target, however anything can happen. I think that Peru can and will win, and that there is a big chance for Mexico to defeat Brazil (in fact Paraguay did it yesterday and in my opinion Mexican team is far better than Paraguay's); the UruguayVs Paraguay game is a good one but I wouldn't bet on that, the score is so unpredictable !!

What do you think?

Actually, I was so thrilled by the Costa Rica-Chile game that I was going to post a congratulatory thread here... I just didn't have much time, really.

So let me say it now: My hat goes off to both Costa Rica and Chile for that incredible game last wednesday. That game was by far the best one so far, and better than many World Cup games I remember. Both teams left everything in the field, with exciting plays on both ends, up and down action, incredible saves, and that miracle goal... WOW!! What a game.

Congratulations to Costa Rica for the now 'miracle at Tacna'.

And Chile to me wasn't an embarassment, Arcano, they just had really crappy luck in the Cup. I think they played highly organized, diciplined football. Hopefully lady luck will make it up to you all in the rest of the qualifyers.
