Does anyone else have it? I got XM satellite radio as an early birthday gift a couple of months ago, and now I can't imagine how anyone can stand broadcast radio. Over 100 commercial-free channels with more variety than you can imagine - just in the last couple of days, I have listed to channels featuring classic Country & Western, new age, Broadway show tunes, African music, opera arias, and electronica. Try finding that on the broadcast dial!
XM's cost is quite reasonable. You can get a receiver for about $100, and the service is $10 per month. It's a wise investment, and my only regret is that I don't spend *more* time in the car to listen to it!

I won't buy it until it's portable. I heard that by the end of the year one will be for sale!

I have been an XM customer for over 2 years. I wouldn't be without it.

Another great feature with XM is the individual traffic reports for many major cities. It gets continually updated, and I have found it to be very accurate.

XM also provides download for real-time weather to various in-cockpit devices. Looks very promising.

Continual updates are something notably lacking with broadcast radio traffic reports. A major disadvantage, of course, as traffic conditions are scarcely static.

I've tried it a couple times in rental cars from Hertz and didn't find it all that great. The time delay when switching stations is annoying as is the fact that going under a bridge, between very tall building or in a tunnel causes you to lose a signal.
The channel selection is awesome but there are some big drawbacks.
Overall, if it's included in the car I get from Hertz, then I use it. If not, I wouldn't pay a penny more for it OR buy it for my own car.

Minor annoyances, but I find them no big deal.

I love XM. I have an old set, probably one of the first, and when I turn my car on, I always hear this really loud static... like when you hit a wrong TV channel. I always figured it was the radio unit locking onto the satelite and starting the download, but rather annoying. That's my only complaint btw .
Have the newer models got a quicker load time than my old unit by any chance?
