With the deadline coming up soon on Saturday afternoon, what does your team need? Who do you want to get or trade?
---------------------------------------
There's a rumor around Boston that would send Derek Lowe to the Padres for Brian Lawrence(SP) and Jay Payton(RF).

The Sox need a RF(Nixon possibly gone for season) and a #3 Starter. A first baseman and a lefty reliever are also very good possibilities.

Here are some others the Sox could be trying to deal for:
Larry Walker, Danny Bautista, Doug Mientkiewicz, Mike Myers, Brad Penny, Carl Pavano, Tom Glavine, Victor Zambrano, Carlos Beltran..just to name a few

I'll step up first. Pirates need to trade Kris Benson before the clock strikes midnight and he becomes the craptastic hurler he's been through most of his career. Trade him to the Twins for Doug Mientkiewicz, put Mientkiewicz at first, then trade Randall Simon for his fair market value - a Fenway Frank or a Dodger Dog.

The Gem the Pirates would get in that trade is Justin Morneau. I've seen that guy playing at AAA here in Crapchester for half the year, and he's a legit upper-lineup hitter.

Wow that sucks. Randall was awesome with the Cubs last year.

I'm just wondering when Randy Johnson will become a damn Yankee.

Here is what Espn's Peter Gammons is reporting tonight:

The Pittsburgh Pirates will trade P Kris Benson to the New York Mets, forgot who the Metropolitians are giving up, and the deal should be finished Friday Morning.

The New York Yankees have shown deep interest in Colorado Rockie Larry Walker. If Walker was traded to New York, Walker would be a back up to Tony Clark. (This is if Jason Giambi can not return for the rest of the season)

Arizona Diamondback Randy Johnson will likely stay in Phoenix because the New York Yankees do not have enough prospects, the league will not allow a player for cash only deal, and Randy Johnson has dismissed the oppertunity of going to the Los Angeles Dodgers or Anaheim Angels.

ESPN's reporting it will be a 3-way deal with the ChiSox. Pittsburgh would get Ty Wigginton from the big club, Matt Peterson from the B-Mets and probably a minor leaguer from the White Sox farm system. I think I could deal with Wigginton. Less years on him, lower salary....only negative I can think of is that he appears more comfortable at 3rd when I've seen him play, and Mackowiak's doing a good job for the Buccos there. That and Mientkiewicz is a better defensive player than Wigginton. The important thing though is to give Benson to someone, ANYONE for some decent talent.

Randall's batting a .184 right now and hasn't gotten a hit in his last 3 games. Time to get him to move on.

I really, really would have liked to seen The Unit go to either of the Chicago teams, but preferably The Cubbies. I have not heard, but did The Cubs even try, or look into the possibility of trading for Randy?

The twins will not be trading Justin Morneau. Besides Doug, the other name mentioned is Michael "Ralley Killer" Restovich. However as mentioned above, it looks like the Mets might be where Benson ends up. The White Sox don't want Minnesota to get him.

Orlando Cabrerra will be a Cub soon also.

I'm sure Morneau is only playing this good so he can get the hell out of Crapchester. Send him to another city and he won't be as hyped up to play well.  Big grin

Steve Finley to the Dodgers would be a good fit. I'd also like to see an additional starter. But please, don't send LoDuca as apart of the deal. The rest of the team should be good to go.

Always apreciate a good C-town blast, especially since Jay Mohr took them to task a while back.

The Cubs have enough starting pitching. Unless they're planning on making the Unit a closer (which they could use right now) they really have no need for him. The Cubs need some more hitting right now. Orlando Cabrera would be a nice upgrade at SS.

From what I have heard, this deal for Cabrera is most likely going to happen.

I'm surprised, however, that the Chicago Cubs are not going to trade for a closer like Ugeth Urbina. The Detroit Tigers have said that he is on the block, but so far, nobody except the San Francisco Giants have shown interest. (Giants have said that now they have no interest in him)

And it's official -

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Ty Wigginton, minor-league right-hander Matt Peterson and infielder Jose Bautista from the New York Mets in exchange for right-handed pitcher Kris Benson and minor league infielder Jeff Keppinger.

Wigginton, 26, has hit .285 with 23 doubles, 12 home runs and 42 RBI in 86 games with the Mets this season. Peterson, 22, has gone 6-4 with a 3.27 ERA in AA Binghamton this season and was ranked as New York's third-best prospect by Baseball America. Bautista, 23, hit a combined .208 with one double and two RBI in 41 games between Baltimore, Tampa Bay and Kansas City this year.

He was happy for about .5 seconds about leaving Pittsburgh, then they told him where he was going. I wouldnt be surprised if he started crying.  Big grin

The Mets also acquired Tampa Bay Devil Rays Pitcher Carlos Zambrano for minor league pitcher Kazmir.

Other Trades:

Philadelphia Phillies trade Ricky Ledee and a minor leaguer for San Francisco Giants pitcher Felix Rodriguez.

San Diego Padres acquire 1b Dave Hansen of the Seattle Mariners for future considerations.

Florida Marlins trade 1b Hee Seop Choi, P Brad Penny and a minor leaguer to the Los Angeles Dodgers for P Guermo Mota, C Paul Lo Duca, and OF Juan Encanarcion.

I think the Florida - Los Angeles trade is the biggest so far and I really think that the Dodgers got screwed on this deal for having to give up Lo Duca and Mota.

I just got back from watching Randy Johnson pitch in Colorado tonight. He gave up a hit to the first batter of the game. Then he set down 18 straight. The D'Backs were only able to give him 1 run. Colorado won, Randy got the "L". I hope his agent was on the phone after the 7th inning. Randy Johnson is one of my favorite players and the D'Backs are my 2nd favorite team, but he's gotta get out of there. At this rate Randy may not make 300 before he retires...

I think the New York Yankees are going to have to make a few moves here. I mean since Jason Giambi is going to be out a while while he treats his Benign Tumor, the yankees are going to have to look for someone who can back up Tony Clark at first base. Also, even though the Yankees has the three headed monster in the bullpen (Quantrill, Gordon, Rivera) I think they need a good left-handed pitcher in that bullpen that can cover for Felix Heredia.

Giants' manager Felipe Alou said last night before the Giants' game that he would love to have Ugueth Urbina as his closer.....the Tigers are asking for two of the following three pitching prospects in return...Merkin Valdez, Matt Cain or Noah Lowry. Alou managed Urbina in Montreal...he loves him. But would you trade two young prospects for a legitimate closer???...very tough call.

BoSox update:

-Doug Mientkiewicz is reportedly "begging" for a trade to Boston.

-Serious rumors around here of a blockbuster trade with Sox, Cubs, Expos.
Sox get: Matt Clement, Orlando Cabrera, top-level minor-leaguer
Cubs get: Nomar, Derek Lowe
Expos get: Alex Gonzalez, prospects

I really hope they get Mientkiewicz. The Nomar/Lowe trade will make the Sox a much weaker team, I hope it doesn't happen.

The next 25 minutes will be very interesting
