The FDA is approving the use of Maggots to clean out wounds of dead tissue. The us of maggots for this purpose dates back years, but recently has come back as a way to remove dead tissues that may be inhibiting the healing process.

This is the second animal to be approved for medical use in the US in the past year. Leeches have also been authroized for us after surgury to reattach severed limbs. They remove blood from a severed limb that isn't flowing back into the body from capillaries that are too small to be surgically repaired but will heal with time.

I just love how this one lady that had the maggots inserted in her foot talks about being able to feel them moving around...and saying that was the indication that it was time to remove them!
