I've live in the Indianapolis/Anderson area my entire life, I like to look at 'my city and state' and just compliment it!!! I'm a person who tries to look at the good side of everything, not the negative stuff!!! So I guess I pick out the good things, and try to leave out the bad!!!
Please tell me what you honestly think of my 'neck of the woods'!!!

To be perfectly honest, I would say that the only good thing about Indiana is Purdue. I grew up in San Diego, so I am used to living near the ocean and teh mountains. In Indiana, however, it is so flat... I just can't stand that! The drive from West Lafayette to either Chicago or Indianapolis brings you past nothing but fields, so it's not very scenic. Flying around there is also pretty boring, because the fields all look pretty much the same from 5000 feet.

I like it. In fact, though I originated and spent my formative years in the northeast, I've been ( and lived ) all over and really like the midwest the best in general...Ohio,Ind,Ill,Ia,Wisconsin. It's not nearly as flat and featureless as the stigma suggests...Nicest people ( on the whole ) and nice and GREEN...fertile. California, while basking in it's hubris looks like an overdeveloped oasis in a desert to me...so DEAD looking. BTW: southern Indiana is as hilly as hell.

I am from Fort Wayne; my entire family is from indiana but i spent most of my early years in the Black Hills of S.Dakota (which i took for granted), now i live in FWA and to be perfectly honest, its pretty damn boring in indiana. Its nice in the fall with the leaves but thats really about it. You spend the whole winter waiting for the weather to warm up, and when it finally does, its so muggy you wish it would cool down.
Anyway, right now im Typing from my uncle's computer here in Hawaii, and ive spent the last few days here and boy i'll tell you, its no indiana... this place is gorgeous...
Also i would just like to say, im very glad you find positive things about the hoosier state, i wish more of us could look at life here in indiana more like you; i think everyone would be a little happier if they did, because i know most people are bored with the state.
Of course if you dont live here, dont critisize it (only those who live here have earned that right)
i still defend my homeland

Yes - southern Indiana has a few hills - I've seen them on the drive to Louisville. As a whole, though, Indiana is flat. I have noticed a lot of pride in Indiana, though - most Hoosiers I've met at school would defend the state and its bountiful corn till death.

OK listen here CRJ (and TWFirst), You are taking this too far!!! Gay this, gay that, that;'s the BULLSHIT!!! I'm sorry I am normal, TWFirst, I am like the other 98% of the world...100% STRAIGHT!!! OK!!! OK, it's wrong to: kill animals, or vandalize, (god forbid) or something stupid like that, right??? Well, not to many people do that, right??? We weren't put on Earth to kill animals, vandalize, or be gay!!!

CRJ: You must hate yourself then. You're obviously EXTREMELY repressed. Leave you alone?? You have the balls to post hate-filled messages in other threads here that were intended to be positive discussions of homosexuality, but you don't like it when we post something from a gay perspective in a "straight" post. (To all reading this: I acknowledge this thread had nothing to do with gay/straight issues and I apologize that it has taken this turn, but I couldn't help but express my disgust with ATA757's bold-faced lie).
Anyway, tough shit CRJ. Deal with it. If you want to be left alone, then leave us alone.
ATA757: Define normal. You're entitled to have your opinion, but don't embarrass yourself by making statements like "I'm a person who tries to look at the good side of everything, not the negative stuff!!!" when you've clearly demonstrated this to be false.
OK, we return you now to your regularly scheduled program entitled "What do you think of Indiana?"

I visited Indianapolis when I was very young, and do not remember much of it. However, from what I've heard about Indianapolis, and from pictures I have seen and books I've read, it looks like a thriving metropolis with many things to see and do. I have visited Ft. Wayne, and driven through other parts of the state. The rural areas are much like my home state of Ohio. Ft. Wayne is a nice city, with very friendly people, and is overall a good place to visit.

I'd say it to both your faces
i dont hate any gay person, ya know what? go be gay, i dont care. But what i dont like is when MANY gay folks try to force thier view on us straight people, and when we dont agree 100% with them, we are hateful bigots and etc.. etc...
I know alot of gay people that are VERY friendly, but its the ones like yourself that piss me off
and with that comment im sure you hate me and will freely express that in the next few posts... so be it
Oh, by the way, my take on indiana can be read in my earlier post..

Your post doesn't make any sense. You say you would say it to our faces (referring to the phrase "I hate gays") but then you turn around and say you don't hate gay people. Nobody is "forcing" gay views on straight people. You don't have to like gays or homosexuality, but you don't have the right to attack us. If you disagree with homosexuality, fine. But saying "I hate gays" is not merely disagreeing. And no, I don't hate you at all (or anyone else for that matter). I don't even know you. It wouldn't be logical to hate you, now would it? There is no logic in homophobia. Ignorance breeds fear.
BTW, SKYTEAM is straight (secure enough in his sexuality and logical enough to realize there is absolutely no reason to be afraid of or hate gays), so I assume you were directing your comments towards me.
Now, could we please return this thread to it's original topic? ATA757 may be an illogical teen-aged homophobe, but he deserves to have his question answered: What do you think of Indiana?

It's not what I think of Indiana. It's what I think of the posts in this thread. HILARIOUS!!!!
Especially TWFirst's surprise digression (but an awesome one) against the insecure homophobes here. And then his suggestion to "return to our regularly-scheduled program.." Funny, funny, funny! (and it did, in fact calm down in here, briefly, until another useless hateful post came up.)

Im not sure if this is correct but my grandfather (who was raised and still is a farmer in northern indiana) said the term "hoosier" comes from the accent that people from indiana used to use. When they would say phrases that began with "who's your...." it sounds like "Hoosier".. I guess its just the way we talk..
Anyway, so supposedly thats where the term comes from... its the only explaination ive ever known; of course my grandfather is quite old so i could be wrong..

Nope, he's not going into the Kelly School of Business. I saw the campus last year, it was really beautiful. Thanks to all who told me what a hoosier was- Now I can put the IU sticker on the car with even more pride now that I know what a Hoosier is. (It took me until yesterday to realize the logo is an I and an U )
