Hey all,

I will shortly be thrown into a situation in which I will need to share a printer with someone. Here's the catch..

We will both have our own internet access via network cable. Therefore, the LAN port in the back of each computer will be used. We will NOT be on the same network.

How can I hook it up so that we share the printer, although the LAN ports will be occupied? *cheapest possible solution being sought*.

N312RC, your printer has to be able to be "seen" by whatver PCs you want to use it. That means it has to be on a common network which, in your case, isn't possible. I don't know what kind of printing you'll be doing but you can pick up a decent printer for under $100. That'd be your cheapest way out.

I used to work (1990 !) with a hardware equipment that allowed 2 to 6 PCs to share a printer through either the parallel or the serial port.

I did a quick search but could not come up with it. I'll keep looking though.
OK, got one here : http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Product_Id=120618

The other solution for you guys is to install a mini-network, with a switch. It's not that complicated. Read this :

Edited to add info.
