Bush adviser quits after appearing in swift boat ad
Saturday, August 21, 2004 Posted: 11:43 PM EDT (0343 GMT)

ROANOKE, Virginia (CNN) -- A volunteer adviser has quit President Bush's re-election campaign after appearing in a veterans group's television commercial blasting Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's involvement in the Vietnam-era antiwar movement.

A Bush campaign statement said it did not know that retired Air Force Col. Ken Cordier had appeared in an ad by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. The Kerry campaign has accused the group of illegally working with the Bush campaign.

As a so-called 527 group, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is barred from coordinating efforts with an election campaign.

Actually he was not an "advisor" but a volunteer on a "steering committee". There is a big difference. You can find steering committees all over the country, not just inside the campaign. When the campaign found he was in the commercial, which hasn't even been aired yet, except on the Internet and by news outlets, he was forced to stop volunteering as one cannot be involved in a 527 and an official campaign.

I guess though that the liberals and media are blind to the fact that the DNC and Kerry campaign have employees who are part of Moveon.org, the Media Fund, America Coming Together, and other Democrat 527's. Also, the largest donors to these groups also have given the maximum allowed amount of money to the Kerry campaign.

I find it amazing that George Soros, Mr. Progressive Insurance CEO, leftwing unions and other assorted liberal groups have spent over 145 million dollars running anti-Bush ads and as soon as a group spends a few hundred thousand dollars, the Democrat establishment along with the Kerry campaign suddenly implode and became concerned about 527 groups.

The show of hypocrisy from the left is amazing. The SBVT have said they do not care if they hurt or help Bush. The leader of the SBVT, John O'Neil, is a registered Democrat, voted for Al Gore in 2000 and says he would like to have seen John Edwards as the candidate for President. About 1/2 the members of the SBVT are Democrats. They have said this is between them and Kerry and no one, not the President, DNC, the media, or anyone else is going to get in their way.

The funny thing is Kerry only has a handful of people backing his story, whatever version it happens to be for the day, but the SBVT have over 250 members who do not change their stories hour by hour. If Kerry wanted to settle the issue once and for all, he could fill out a Form 180 and release ALL of his military records. Of course doing so would most likely scuttle his campaign faster than it is already sinking so all he can do is try and divert attention from himself. Notice that not once has Kerry made any real attempt to rebut the claims made by the SBVT. All they do is attack the SBVT as part of the vast right wing conspiracy, claim that it is a secret plot by the Bush Campaign, or try to personally destroy the members of the SBVT.

So what we have here is a volunteer from the boonies, doing the right thing and quiting because of his involvement in the commerical.

Too bad nobody on the left will acknowledge it.

But Judging from all the screaming the leftists are doing, I woudl say the adds are working.

Isn't that the truth. If Kerry had totally ignored the SBVT, the media would have quietly buried the story and nothing would have come of it.

However, thanks to the Democrats going nuts over it, the book "Unfit for Command" has sold so many copies that the publisher is now on its 7th printing and stores cannot keep them in stock and have long waiting lists. It has been #1 on Amazon.com for well over 3 weeks and #1 on BarnesandNoble.com since officially going on sale. (The disparity is because Amazon uses pre-Orders to rank sales were as B&N doesn't list books on their best seller list until it is actually on sale.) On Thursday alone, the SBVT received close to $400,000 in donations, mostly in small sums of less than $100.
________________________________________________________________

As for the main issue of the thread, there seems to be some discrepancy on the part of the media. Some stories say he quit on his own knowing it was required, others say he was asked to quit, while others say he was given a forceful boot. Most likely he left on his own or was asked to leave.

So far pro-Kerry/anti-Bush 527's (mostly anti-Bush) have out spent pro-Bush/anti-Kerry 527's by roughly 145 million to 9 million. Most of the money for the anti-Bush 527's have come from a small collection of liberal billionaires such as George "Wrecking Economies and Governments is my Hobby" Soros, Progressive Auto Insurance CEO Peter B. Lewis as well as other rich Democrats.

Seems like this was the plan by the Democrats all along. Gut the first Amendment with so called CFR and already have waiting in the wings the organizations ready to take over where the party can no longer go. Bush's signing of CFR (and punting to the Supreme Court and hoping they'd strike it down) was probably the stupidest thing he has done during his time in office and is the one thing that could seriously come back to bite him on the butt.

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - A Vietnam veteran who worked with President Bush (news - web sites)'s campaign has left over his appearance in a commercial by a group challenging Democratic candidate John Kerry (news - web sites)'s war record, a campaign spokesman said on Saturday.

Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said Ken Cordier was a Bush supporter during the 2000 election and served as a member of his a steering committee to help reach out to veterans during this election......

*********************************************

volunteer adviser, or paid advisor, or worked for, that does not discount that fact that he has/had affiliation with both 2000 and 2004 campaign.....What is funny and you probably will deny the fact is he was asked/quit/given the boot..whatever you want to believe 2 days and a flyer later after SBV part II was released to the media which was early on thursday morning ...if Cordier actually hid the fact of his SVFT from the Bush campaign that in itself says volumes for their group...face it Bush is up against a corner in this one and the ship is sinking.....Bush could have made this all go away and done as McCain asked.....denounce the ad specificly.......however Rove is gambling the whole campaign that they will be able in the long run make Kerry look like a ass.......Rove is running short on cards.......Roves theroy is the longer this goes the less people will be able to see/hear John Kerrys plan..........But thats ok we know Bushes.....in the next couple weeks........a little FEAR with a few helping of SMEAR........

And, as usual, B757300, you give nothing to back up such claims, do you. If you have source, share it with is. But then again, I see why you love Bush so much-he doesn't back up his claims either, as witness to WMD's in Iraq, or ties betwen OBL and Saddam. I can see why you worship the man.

Too bad nobody on the left will acknowledge it.

Too bad a RWAK like yourself is always too busy kissing up to Bush. Can you tell me again, L-188, how you're not a Republican? I need the laugh.

If Kerry had totally ignored the SBVT, the media would have quietly buried the story and nothing would have come of it.

ROTFL. He couldn't ignore a personal attack on his character and who he was back then. You know it, and I know it. Especially since the Swift Boat Veterans of Lies are still putting out ads. Had Kerry not finally responded, he would give them the last word, and I don't think, in his shoes, you would have done any different.

Again, B757300, show us who in the Kerry camp is working for a 527? Oh, you don't have sources? You just made it up, kind of like a reflex, typical of a RWAK? Oh, I get it.

Alpha 1,

Here's what he was talking about. I am surprised you haven't heard about it, it was all over talk radio, Fox News, and even got a mention during the headlines on CNN, MSNBC, etc.

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/4/7/140825.shtml

There was another smaller story, that I am unable to find (it was only covered on talk radio and Fox News this time) in which Kerry workers quit the Kerry Campaign and went to work immediately for the Moveon.org PAC.

The fact is that both sides are using the 527s and the coordination is not enough that it's not illegal, but it's enough that it simply doesn't look good.

Also records show that Democrat leaning 527's way out number and out spend Republican leaning 527's. Moveon.org has been attacking the President for over a year now. While SBVT is the only note worthy Republican 527 attacking Kerry.

You know you're right. The only problem is they happen to be the right people. The only other commanding officer, the men under Kerry's direct command, hell even John McCain to some extent.

The rest try not to dignify this dirty, and almost evil, slur with a response, as the right wing is trying to force Kerry to do. It's disgusting.

What you have here are a group of men who, originally praised Kerry. Suddenly, thirty years later, after financial support from a wealthy Bush supporter, suddenly change their story.

I'm not wealthy, but I promise to donate $10 to the Bush reelection campaign for the first of you RWAK's that admit you guys got caught in one big, fat, dirty, underhanded, bullshit lie on this one.

The funny thing is it's the men who were actually with Kerry, not a bunch of bitter guys who weren't with him that day. So much for that idiocy.

So? I don't have trouble with people leaving one organization and going to another. That doesn't bother me. But the problem here, I'm convinced, is that I really believe that Bush's campaign is willfully involved in this Swift Boat Veterans of Lies campaign.

NonRevKing,

If Kerry is so sure that he has done nothing wrong why doesn't he release his record. Bush had to release his Air Force Reserve record because of constant attacks by the left, let's have equality, both candidates both release their entire military records to the public. None of these ads, or debate bullshit, lets have all the paperwork out for the public to see, Bush has already released alot of his, yet Kerry has not released any of his own.

He hasn't released all his records. He's fought it ever step of the way. And it's funny that, suddenly, all these allegedly well-kept records of Bush have turned up mission or destroyed, isn't it?

The same thing happened with the SBVT ad, the Bush campaign saw the ad and most likely requested the man to leave because of the rules. The man may not have been aware of the details of 527's and simply kept working his volunteer position in the Bush campaign.

But like I said both sides use 527's, both sides fling mud, it's a dirty campaign, but neither side is clean.

This Larry Thurlow is a lying, dishonorable crud. Somehow, he KNEW, waaaay back then, that John Kerry had some vauge "master plan". This man, Thurlow, got a bronze star from a report that LGW-Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (Germany)">HE said Kerry wrote, but for some reasons, he's bitter at Kerry.

He's planting these lies not becuase of Kerry's service, but simply because Kerry, like thousdands of Vets after the war. And he's held a lifetime grudge against this man. Thurlow is the worst kind of American.

The Republicans should take notice of that. It cost the Conservatives a lot of votes and respect. Character assasination and dirty politics eventually causes a huge backlash amongst the voters, who are not as gullible as politicians might think.

The latest ad, a 30-second spot released Friday, uses segments from Kerry's testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 1971. In the ad, Kerry says, "They had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads," "randomly shot at civilians," and "razed villages in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Kahn."

The ad does not include Kerry's preface, in which he said he is reporting what others said at a Vietnam veterans conference. Instead, a swift boat group member refers to the statements as "accusations" Kerry made against Vietnam veterans.

An official transcript shows Kerry was referring to a meeting in Detroit, Michigan, that was part of what was called the Winter Soldier investigation.

I haven't seen the ad but this sounds like dirty play by the group naming themselves "Veterans for Truth" ...
