With Hold-Em sweeping the nation thanks to ESPN televising the WSOP (along with susequent copy-cat versions), I'm wondering if anyone here plays regularly in either local tourneys or neighborhood games. We've always played poker, but now this is all everyone wants to do. No more 7-card, 5-card, Gut, etc. Just Hold-em. Anyone else play regularly?

Used to play faithfully every week when I lived down in CT. Played all kinds of games: Pass the Trash, Jacks or Better Trips to Win, many 5-card and 7-card variations, as well as non-poker, such as Between the Sheets. Only able to play a few times since back in Boston for 10 years.

Hold em is a completely different game requiring much more skill, quick wits and, let's face it, a lot of chips. So strategy gives way to greed, especially if you're playing with more than 5 at the table. At least, when I've played these are the things I've had to endure.
Yes I agree that hold em has been sweeping the nation and is overhyped and greatly sensationalized. Personally, a nice tactical game of 5 card suits me best. More fun. Hold em is quick and no fun if you're watching so it's not really a well fit game if you're playing with your buddies in your garage.
I can play it regularly but would rather not. Hard to find players around here who are willing to devote any time to it.

I play a lot ... Hold'em can get expense quick on a 1 to 4 dollar table. I like to play 7 stud. I do like watching it on TV. At the bicycle club in Calif. They play a game called "low ball" I think its the best poker game going.
Next time try the old "dirty Sanchez" She'll love it !!!

"I think it's great that all these people think they know how to play. More people to take money from."
Hey, Hunglikeachihuahua: As of your post, "all these people" = 3 of us. Obviously, we've filed for independent nation status as a group of self-professed poker experts. Bring your ATM card.

Wow, I sure hope you don't have a diploma.
There is, in fact, a world outside this website. If you're too stupid to realize that or if you're stupid enough to often refer to three people as 'all these people' or if you're too stupid to not realize I was referring to 'all these people' outside the membership of a.net... well, hopefully you're not too stupid to get the point...

Hold em is fun if you're playing it for drinks. I'm not sure that I've played it otherwise. Used to play 5-card now and then though.

Well, I missed your original point, not because I'm stupid, but because you spend so much time trashing other members here that I didn't even consider that you'd be referring to the players on TV. Yes, there is a world outside this website. You've been a member for approximately 7 months; 1406 posts / 7 months ~ 201 posts/month. I've been a member for approximately 2 months; 124 posts / 2 months = 62 posts/month. By this approximation, I spend more than 3 times as much time in the world outside of this site as you do. Anyway, a pretty weak argument on my part, but I've got other things to do.

Actually, your calculations should conclude that I spend 3x more time here than you, NOT the other way around dealing with time spent outside this place. Example: if it takes me 30 minutes to write 10 posts and takes you 3 minutes to write one, you have 23:57 hours to spend outside this website and I have 23:30 minutes. Hardly three times more time outside this website.

WellHung: You know, I thought about that "3 times" thing shortly after I had posted. My bad. Anyway, as far as RR goes, I'm not sure what it's really worth. Easy for me to trivialize it, since mine is a lowly 1, but seriously, some people get high RR's for aviation knowledge, others because they're conservative, or because they're liberal. As far as I'm concerned, since I know the difference between there, their, and they're should warrant something higher than a 1. I feel as though I've had some constructive things to say in the aviation forum at times, although I'm by no means an expert, and other times I've weighed in on social issues in non-aviation. So, nobody seems to really care. Oh well, f*ck it.
