Ok guys I need some help here. I have no idea what I did, but when I click a link to open up a new window, the new window opens up but I can't see it. It is not on the task bar on the bottom. The only way I know it opened is by going to the task manager and seeing that it is open, but even from there I can't get to the page. It's like it's hidden or something. Anyway to fix this cause it is really annoying?

And yes, I tried to see it with and without my pop up blocker installed.

On the assumption that you are using Win XP, right click on your mouse on the Windows START button. Select the Properties on that pop-up menu. You may adjust properties from there. Have you installed any new software on your computer recently?

Yes I have XP and no, I haven't installed anything new on my computer. This is really irritating too. If i'm on A.net and I open up another website, I cant go to the task bar to come back here. I have to completely close the other window.

It's like there is no active window. All the windows are gray and not in use. Usually by clicking on a program that is running, it comes to the front. Well nothing is doing that.

If all of those things would have fried, the computer would have given you the blue screen of death (the window that pups up saying your computer has died.) Did you see that blue screen with white print?

The computer just starts Windows XP and thats all it does. The black screen with the Windows XP icon pops up and then nothing else happens.

Well, obviously those computer people at school arent too bright. Ok, its definately not the video card, or motherboard, or harddrive. All you need to do is reinstall XP, or do a system restore by hitting F8 before the black XP screen comes up and you hit last known good configuration. Do the latter first, and if that doesnt work do what I said in the beginning.

Sounds like it could be an issue with the popup blocker software, regardless if it is still installed or not. My next try would be to run an updated virus scan, then uninstall any popup blocker software, and reinstall Internet Explorer. That should solve things provided the problem only occurs within that application.

They did hit F8 but halfway through, it froze.

Hey Bronco,

How's it going? Sorry to hear about your PC problems. Would you please give us specific PC System information? We may offer more assistance, if we have specifics. We will need to know your components, settings, any file-sharing downloads, system back-ups, defragement schedule, case & system cleaning, etc... I think you see were I am headed? Thanks

Tried that too. It wouldn't load then gave me a list of like 10 things that were "illegal" or something like that.

Don't worry about it now. I bought a new computer. All is going well now and the laptop is sitting in its bag under my bed.

How's it going? Did you buy a Brand Name PC or custom built PC? I think you should try to get your old PC up & running?! Is your new PC a laptop or desktop? I would still like to know details about your old dead PC? Never give up, man!

I have 2 custom built desktop PC's, 1 Apple G4 450mhz tower, 1 G3 300mhz iBook, 1 IBM Thinkpad 600e & 1 IBM Thinkpad R40.

Yeah, I have a slight PC obsession! I use different PC's for different things.

The G4 (450mhz G4 1gb 133mhz SDRAM 120gb HD)is for live mixing & editing from my Technics 1200's & Vestax 2 channel mixer.

The Thinkpad R40 (Intel Centrino 1.3ghz 768mhz 266 DDRAM 40 gb HD CD-RW/DVD ROM) is my mobile mate. I use it for school, travel & wireless connectivity.

My main Desktop PC (AMD 2800XP+, 2gb 333mhz DDRAM, 120gb (7200 RPM) HD, ATI All In Wonder 256mb video card. This is my "Tivo" & HD-DVD machine.

Second desktop PC (AMD Athlon 1400, 512mb 133mhz SDRAM, 40gb (4200 RPM) HD, Nvidia GeForce2 400MX 64mb video card. Second machine is my former PC, I use it for web-surfing & file-sharing.

I keep the Thinkpad 600e in my bedroom for wireless web-surfing.

The iBook, I can't remember the last time I used it? Oh yeah, my broher in law is also taking classes, he used it for 2 years, he just purchased a new iBook G4 1ghz. I am trying to give him the IBM 600e, so he can run Linux. He & my sister are Apple only. They need to branch out!

My old desktop was down & out, I installed a new power supply, hard drive & XP Pro. It has been running for 3+ years, minus a few days for those repairs & troubleshooting.

Take it easy.

Tom

Why would anybody voluntarily step down from OS X to Linux?

OS X has all the Unix infrastructure you could want, with full hardware support, plus an excellent user interface and equally good applications. You can even just recompile most of the Linux command-line tools if you absolutely need them.

Linux has nothing I would want over OS X. And I know both (using Linux for cheap servers only).

The computer that crashed was a laptop my parents bought me in 2001. It had 9gb hard drive and 128RAM. It came with windows 98 but I upgraded to Windows XP in 2003. It was very bottom of the line.

My new computer:
160GB
512RAM
Athlon XP processor
DVD/CDRW
17" LCD Flat Screen Monitor
Windows XP

Very Nice! A desktop is not portable. Desktops are expandable, comfortable & full size. Laptops are great for travel, on-campus, job-site, business meetings, etc.. I love using the Desktop PC @ home.

Klaus,

My Brother-in Law, Mike. He really wants to have a Linux Machine. I agree, since OS X is Unix based, why revert back? I really don't need the Thinkpad 600e, so if he wants to make it a Linux "Guinea Pig" so be it. I was hoping my sister would use the 600e, which runs XP SP1. She is Apple only! She does Print & Layout/Graphic Design. Even my 2 year old Nephew has a G3 iMac in his room. He plays a Blue's Clues learning program.

They are becoming computer "packrats" like me. They have a G4 867 tower, G4 iBook, G3 iMac, 10gb iPod (1st generation) & 15gb "VW" iPod. Anyone remember the VW "Buy a new Beetle, get a Special Edition 15gb iPod Promotion ("Pods Unite")? Hey, they have a 4 door VW Jetta. Turns out, a co-worker purchased a 20gb iPod & then purchased a new VW Beetle. He is a single dude, who didn't need 2 iPods. She scored the "VW" iPod & all the extras for next to nothing! It has a cool "VW" emblem etched into the back of it.
