Greetings everyone. Well tonight is the start of a three game series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. With the lead only being 3.5 games, unfortunately, in the American League Eastern Division, this series should be great. The game tonight is at 7.05 (est), tomorrow I believe at 1.30 and sunday at 1.00. Starting Pitchers this weekend:

Tonight: Branson Arroyo (BOS) vs. Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez (NYY)

Tomorrow: Derek Lowe (BOS) vs. John Liber (NYY)

Sunday: Pedro Martinez (BOS) vs. Mike Mussina (NYY)

Like I said this series should be great and I believe Yankees will win tonight because of El Duque and will win tomorrow with Liber. The Yankees will take two out of three overall this weekend.

Signed,
Matthew

Naw I think that the Sox will take atleast 2 out of the 3 if not all 3... I know that Arroyo, can be off sometimes but I have faith that he will pull it out and pull it off... both games sat/sun are at 1:05 est

Good luck Sox

=) Tanya

Sox win 3-2 with a 2-run 9th off Rivera. It was an incredible(but long) game and it was great seeing Cabrera get the game winning hit in his first experience with this great rivalry. Division lead down to 2.5.

I bet $100 Yanksn4 will not post in this thread again until the Yanks win.

Ren41, I was just going to say, he'll climb back into his hole, now that the Yanks look human.

And I love it.  Big thumbs up

The Yankees will only win 2 games this weekend if the series doesn't get rained out. They may have managed to play between the showers today, but more is in the forecast for tomorrow. That means a doubleheader Sunday in all probability, if the weather clears up. Otherwise it's going to be a real long struggle from here out with no more off days and a doubleheader or two.

Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs!

Will that be check or cash Ren41? Anyway, I can not believe what happened in the ninth. I can't believe the greatest closer of all time did that. Well, tomorrow is another day and hopefully Liber can shut down the offense like Tanyon did tonight.

That's 2 straight blown saves against the Sox. He looked horrible last night and had no control at all. Foulkie was great as always getting an easy 1-2-3 inning.

13-0 in the 5th. Sox are being no-hit by John Lieber. Derek Lowe injured. Defense terrible . Kinda wish there was a rainout... Big grin

Luckily we have Pedro tomorrow who should be looking for some revenge.

Hi All,
Thank god for MLBTV..I am watching this travesty from London...I think the Sox should just forget about this game and not dwell on it. S*** happens you know? Lowe was lost from the start. If they take two out of three that will be good enough. I really don't see Theo re-signing this guy.

Hopefully Pedro will do better tomorrow, though I'd feel better if Curt was starting. I don't know about Martinez, he's had some really bad first innings this year. He's still one of the best in the game though..I don't see Epstein letting the Yankees sign him in the offseason.

I'm sure we'll see the Yankees gloat about this one..Remember it's still Red Sox 1, Yanks 1 (and the Sox still lead the season series..)

Good game, would have been nicer if Lieber had gotten the no-no, but always nice to see the Sox get ass-whomped, especially when some of it is there own doing (all those walks, and what the hell was Lowe doing throwing to third when there was an out just waiting to be had at first?).

But in all seriousness, the game tomorrow is really important (by the way, is it going to be nationally televised?). Yanks will still come away from this in first by at least a game and a half. The important thing to remember is that the Yanks, more often than not in important games, win when Pedro pitches. They keep close, and then find an opportunity to strike. It'll be close, but I don't fear Pedro pitching tomorrow.

That's 2 straight blown saves against the Sox. He looked horrible last night and had no control at all. Foulkie was great as always getting an easy 1-2-3 inning.

Now let's be realistic. Blown saves happen to everybody. You're not telling me that with the money on the line, playoff time, you'd take Foulke over Rivera, are you?

I think Torre should have let Lieber get the complete game. I can, however, understand why the other guys needed the playing time.

Lieber only threw 98 pitches, so I don't know why he was pulled. It certainly wasn't to get Scott Proctor some work (he was awful, quite frankly).

Looks like we have another fair-weather Yankee "fan" with Mir coming out of the closet.

How did I imply that? Of course I would take Rivera over Foulkie in a big game. He's the best postseason closer in the history of baseball. I was just saying how much better Foulke was than Rivera on Friday. Against the Sox, Rivera has struggled a lot recently because he has faced those hitters so much that they're beginning to understand him.

Tomorrow will be a great day with Pedro going at 1 and the Pats looking for #17 at 4.

What makes me a fair weather fan? Just because I like the team? Please don't confuse me with Matthew.

My apologies for misunderstanding your statement about Foulke and Rivera. I don't know what it is about Rivera and the Red Sox (they mentioned on the broadcast that 36% of his blown saves are against them, or something like that), but he manages to keep the troubles confined to the regular season.

It will be a good game tomorrow, I just hope I can watch it here in North Dakota.

I agree with you that Joe should have let John finish the game, but I can see why there would be a concern. Remember Liber is still in his first season back after missing I believe two because of the Tommy John Surgery. Regarding the bullpen, they have been worked enough with Flash Gordon and Quantrill in the game everynight.

Yes Pedro is up there in terms of the best right now, but as a Yankee fan I don't want Pedro on my team. After what he did last year in the playoffs in Boston, I hope he ends up like Johnson in Arizona. Also, his refusal to even talk to Theo and his public comments aren't a good sign for the sox.

After his initial outbirst around May he has stated that he wants to finish his career in Boston and raise his family here. According to him it's up to the Sox to get him a good contract.

I'm sure you will want him on your team when the Georgie is doing everything he can to sign him this winter.

I hope he ends up like Johnson in Arizona

What does that mean? Do you want Pedro to beat the Yanks in the World Series like Johnson did in 2001?

Another ass-whomping. Yanks win 11-1, having knocked Pedro out in the 6th (by which time 8 runs had been scored off him). Homers by Sheffield, Posada, Jeter and A-Rod.

Lead is up to 3 and a half now.

Probably means that he wants Pedro to end up pitching really well on a sucky team. Which isn't going to happen. The only reason Johnson is in the situation he's in is because he was part of the 2001 team (a very good team), and they fell apart in subsequent years while his contract was still in effect. Pedro would never sign with a team in the state that the Diamondbacks are now, and besides which, most of the good teams have the money to go after him and cut out the small-market teams.

I wouldn't mind seeing Pedro on the Yankees, just because in spite of his postseason record, he's a damn good pitcher who will help the team get there, but I'd prefer to get Johnson.
