Favorite M*A*S*H Character?

Greetings!

I figured in light of my previous thread on the existence (or as I erroneously said the lack thereof) barbers on M*A*S*H, I will now ask, what is your favorite character? And/or which one do you see yourself the most as?

For me it would be Father Mulcahy. I have a similar gleeful sense of humor and wit as he does, that is doubled with a tensely competitive side and yet keeping a good sense of morals.

How about some others? Love to hear the opinions!

I know it was decades ago, but too bad Wayne Rogers left the show after three, but he has a pretty good gig right now!

Major character: Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce. His ideals as a character were right on.

Minor character: Sergeant Luther Rizzo. "This is a veee-hicle".

Captain "Hawkeye" Pierce - but only until he started getting all preachy and they started developing that plotline with the psychiatrist, Sidney Friedman.

For Major character: Radar.

Some of his naive lines were priceless:

"There are naked women taking showers with all their clothes off."

"I'll be going to jail in my puberty and won't be released until my adultery."

"Yes your Hebrewness."

"Do perform circumcision on Jewish Hebrews?"

For Minor character: Col. Flagg (who actually only appeared on 6 episodes)

"Don't play dumb, you're not as good at it as I am!"

"You are dumb... VERY DUMB! But you've met your match in me!"

"I have nothing to do with Intelligence!"

Flagg: Are you familiar with the Chinese-Malaysian water torture?

Radar: No sir.

Flagg: Good, because there's no such thing... yet.

And one more line.

Potter (to Flagg): Why are you dressed up like an Italian usher?

Flagg: Can you keep a military secret?

Potter: I think so.

Flagg: I'm disguised as Ling Chao, Chinese double-agent.

Potter: Funny, you don't look Chinese.

Flagg: Neither would Ling Chao if he were dressed like this.

 Laugh out loud

I vote for Radar O'Reilly. He was the moral center of the show, and kept everyone else in line when they fell apart. He was an innocent who grew beyond ignorance, but never lost his way. He got things done, and taught everyone as much as he learned. His character was a plot device that really made the show work, and left its imprint on the story even after he left.

Nurse Kealani Kellye is my favorite.

The actress' name was Kellye Nakahara. For some reason, the website lists her name as Kellye Wallett. She must of either got married or changed her last name. I think the first episode she appeared in was early in the 2nd season (Radar's Report).

In the last episode before the finale, As Time Goes By, Hot Lips announces her as Nurse Nakahara just before placing her Army boots in the time capsule.

Two favorite lines from the show - (approximate quotes)

Henry Blake, yelling at Hawkeye and Trapper: "And another thing...I'm getting sick and tired of you two always going over my head down to Radar."

Klinger, in a black dress, hat with black veil, fancy funeral-type outfit, reading from a letter supposedly from his mother: "Dear Son," and Col Blake interrupts with, "You obviously haven't sent her a recent photograph."

Favorite character - two of them: Radar, Major Burns.

Least liked character: BJ Hunnicut!!

I'm going with Klinger. My favorite sequence was the poker game when Col. Flagg joined.

FLAGG: "Hey! Up close, you're a guy!"

KLINGER: "Far away, too."

Classic.

Thanks for the input! All interesting points.

Now for a new twist:
Who was better between:

Frank Burns or Charles Winchester

Trapper John or BJ Hunnicut

Colonel Blake or Colonel Potter

Radar O'Rielly or Max Klinger

And did you like the show better after Burns, Trapper, Blake, and Radar left and Alan Alda took over, or the way it was before?

Thanks again!
Cheers -

Actually in that episode, 'Deal Me Out', Edward Winter wasn't playing Flagg; he was playing another Intelligence officer named Capt. Hallerman. This same episode also had John Ritter on it. Col. Flagg debuted later in the 2nd season in the 'Smattering of Intelligence' episode.
