Good Tuesday morning! John Kerry brought his "front porch meeting" to our Canonsburg, PA neighborhood on Labor Day morning. Since you will never hear the truth from the TV or print media I thought that you should know from someone who was `almost' there.

The residents who live on the street where the event took place were not allowed to attend. Kerry shipped in approximately 90 invitation only VIPs. In addition, there was a hard luck case who was about to lose her job at USAIR and another was an elderly woman who was having
health care problems. Neither one was from this neighborhood. The street was closed to all traffic the night before and all residents on the street were REQUIRED to remove their Bush/Cheney signs.

The sympathetic police officers on duty told us that Kerry used imminent domain to claim the street for his purposes. Residents who have homes within the perimeter (approximately 1 full block) were kept behind a line away from the partisan crowd. The rest of us were not allowed within the 1 block cordon. A neighbor from across the street came to the line where we were being kept and asked us to come onto his property. The police told us that we could stand on this mans FORMERLY private property! This was set up so that Kerry's views could be heard - but not the neighbors. About 30 peoples (mostly neighbors) shouts echoed down the street "Let the neighbors in".

We could barely hear Kerry speaking with his microphone because press buses were used to block us off from view! This mornings papers are reporting hecklers tried to interrupt Kerry as he spoke to the neighborhood gathering, but he turned our chants to his favor by calling us rude. Even though most of the media was there to record our stories of not being included in the neighborhood forum, not one of them printed or aired the truth. This is what America will look like if Kerry becomes president.

Get registered and get all of your friends registered to vote if they have not already. Kerry thinks that he is better than the rest of us and he has the media on his side to make him out to be what he is not! Finally, last night as I drove down the street where the rally was, I was shocked to see Bush/Cheney signs in almost every yard on the street!

Lovely.

So Kerry doesn't respect property rights either.

Kerry taking back America one block at a time! I just went to the Cheney Rally in Sylvania Ohio and the Unions showed up and were allowed to stand right outside the door.

They were peaceful and respectful and there was NO effort to remove them. Period! I spoke to a few protesters and asked their position on Kerry and most responded they just want Bush out, who cares, Kerry must be a better choice and Bush is evil. Typical

You got to be kidding! This man will say and do anything to get elected. Kerryism #1, "I voted for it, before I voted against it", rings in my mind.

Yeah, I thought this was about the USAir employee.

Not another smear tactic.

This is what America will look like if Kerry becomes president.

I do hope all your republicans who read this story realize Bush did the same thing at a Pembroke Pines, Florida neighborhood in May. So don't flatter yourselves.

Well can you give some facts to the Pembroke Pines so called incident? JMC1975 gave a personal account all I see from you generality.

Well, I don't know about Pembroke Pines, but CNN showed a video a while ago that showed a mother of a soldier getting arrested at a Bush rally for protesting (not anything violent or loud, just persistent). I think that she was charged with trespassing or something stupid like that.

It happens with both parties. It's called PR.

And besides which, this doesn't seem that bad. Sure it's an inconvenience, but I can't think of any rights that were violated, and things generally go to hell when the President (or a possible President-to-be) comes to town, for PR reasons, security reasons, etc.

Well, someone I know who lives there (on the street itself) was telling me about it.

I can't give you any links or anything because, like the Kerry incident, it wasn't in the news.

I also wasn't there myself.

It's fine if you want to post the experience but to put blame on Kerry for violating rights to people and saying that "this is how it'll be if he becomes president", when Bush has done the same and they have probably done several times (both candidates) is just more smear tactics.

Excuse me? What happened to the title of the thread? I don't even see a mention of US employees? All I see is a disgruntled person, who wasn't really there, posting how terrible Kerry is.

And sorry folks, Kerry can't claim "emminent domain" on a city street. If you believe that, well, you'll believe anything.

The more I listen to the desperate rants of the conservative side on here, the more I'm convinced they're scared as hell right now, and that's just fine by me.  Big grin

Just to let you know, this did happen. My mother received this e-mail and having grown up in the Canonsburg, PA area wrote to a life long friend to ask it where true. She wrote back and said 'YES'... 'I was there and stuck in the traffic'. It was also covered on a local news channel that at the time offered a link to the story. As for the USAirways mention. In the copy I received, the Kerry Suporters bused in a unemployeed USAirways employee who was not even from that area...!! A plant you may want to call it to gain a simpathedic ear. Had he been true to what this 'front porch meeting' was all about he would have asked the local coal miners to attend.

As much as I hate Kerry (seeing his plane on the Signature ramp in MKE right now wants to make me puke) I'm sure that Bush pulls off the same kind of thing when he has his meetings with the common folk. If I had lived in that neighborhood I would have had "No Trespassing" signs in the front yard, with me in a lawn chair holding my Mossberg 12 gauge and a box of Winchester Buckshot shells at my feet with a George Bush sign behind me. Imminent domain my ass.

Nice Trip Report!!! Great Pics, thanks for posting!!!! B747Forever

So what?

When EITHER of the two annointed Presidential candidates come to town, airspace gets shut down, the airport gets shut down, the freeway gets shut down the streets get shut down around the speech site, the cops are all pulled away from other duties and on and on.

I just experienced it when GWB came to Reno last week. Now I'll have to go through it next week when Kerry comes to town. This despite the fact that 60% of the population does not give a damn what the candidate has to say.

The only cure is this, we change the laws so that: The incumbent may not campaign but must stand on his record. The challenger is bound by Truth-in-Advertising laws and not protected from libel or slander charges in his campaign. Maybe that would put an end to the circus that makes America a laughingstock all over the world.

EDIT: By the way, I got this exact same story, almost word for word over a month ago, only it was a different city (Carolinas IIRC) from a right-wing relative. It is an urban legend.

Another PS to the BS

Last month the weather was down in PHL and they were using the 09 runways. Departures were off 09L and arrivals on 09R. I had worked my way up to about number three or so for takeoff when they stopped all departures because they had a plane that "had to land on the left."

We thought it might be an emergency or something so we are all watching for it. Turns out to be a 757. Turns out to be John Kerry!

The guy is such a liberal he would not even permit his pilots to land on the RIGHT runway.

Okay, okay! I know that is not the reason why. All the security was set up in one place and he just exited the runway right into the arms of the security detail. It made complete sense. I just used that statement above to prove a point. Our polarized politics are out of control. Grow up people.

Doesn't sound to plausible to me, but I guess it is possible.

As for emminent domain, that doesn't really apply.. but there might be some obscure election law that lets a canidate campaign anywhere they want, If I lived on that block I would just put a Bush/Cheney sign in my windows, they can't come inside your house and take them down. However, I would first need a Bush/Cheney sign.

OOh, by the way... not heard...they WATCHED it happen..!!

Well wake up... it's for real. More so for security reasons, but they can and did do that. Several years ago President Clinton and his group of staff showed up at our hangar, took over, kicked us out of half of it, then roped it off. As a Presidental Canadate Sen Kerry is entilted to the same security conciderations.

EMBQA, you make it sound like he's not entitled to it. And I hardly think it's "emminent domain". Again, that's something a government body uses when needing to acquire land or assets, not something a presidential candidate uses to hold a front-porch meeting.

I'm thinking someone used that almost as a metaphore, becuase usually campaigns set up in advance with a city on such things.

Shit happens when the president comes to town. Life is generally miserable for the few hours or days that he's there. Kerry, for purposes of security, is pretty much the same as the president, so the rules apply to him too.

Deal with it.
