58,000 Missing Ballots In Florida

The US Presidential election is getting uglier by the day. After Ohio, where Republicans have (fortunately) failed to prevent thousands of people from exerting their right to vote, it's now in Florida that 58,000 ballots, that were supposed to mailed out on Oct. 7 and 8 to Broward County, could be missing.

I understand that Broward County (mainly FLL) is a very large Democrat stronghold in Florida.

I'm really not convince that Americans will know on November 3rd who their next president will be.

"The postal service told Local 10 late Tuesday that they don't have 58,000 ballots floating around. They did say that they have several employees assigned to deal only with ballots and they are being delivered in one to two days -- once they get them."

..so.... who didn't bring them to the post office?

"the elections office is now suggesting that they take the opportunity to vote early."

no brainer....

JeffM, Techrep,

Is that the best you can contribute to this thread? Here we have 58,000 people who have no recieved their absentee ballots yet, in the SAME counties that there were fiascos in last year, and the best you can do is make wisecracks? Pathetic.

As for these ballots, if these people don't recieve their absentee ballots on time, expect and uproar and a complete mess in Florida. They should have the right to vote and nothing should stop them, not political intervention or post office messup.

In related news, imagine what would happen if QB001 actually took as much interest in the elections of his own country as he does the US'.

KROC,

You're starting to sound like others in this forum, can't you at least comment on the thread? He brought up something serious, what do you say about the missing ballots? Or are you just going to choose to ignore it? Try again dude.

If you don't want to comment on it, fine, but don't ridicule the guy for bringing it up.

It doesn't sound good at all.
And as the Liberal I am its hard to say this, but wasn't it the Democrats own fault? Wasn't there a lady who was suppose to bring them there? Big grin

The fact of the matter is that even if 58,000 absentee ballots weren't sent, that DOES NOT MEAN THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE HAS BEEN SUPPRESSED.

It just means they can't vote via absentee ballot. These people can STILL exercise their right to vote by showing up at the polls on November 2nd.

College students, our uniformed men and women, and civil servants abroad can hardly show up on November 2nd. Their rights have, effectively, been suppressed.

Blaming this on the Democrats is stupid. Broward is a mainly Democratic county. It would be political suicide to intentionally f things up.

Blaming Democrats or Republicans for what appears to be yet another election mess is pointless.

The reality is that we, the United States of America, have made ourselves the laughing stock of the world in recent years when it comes to the ballot box. We can put a man on the moon, develop some of the world's best technology, put powerful computers in the homes of most Americans, and we lack the courage, ethics, common sense, and tenacity to build a uniform electoral process that is immune to fraud. Lets not get started on the issue of how voting is a local issue. A lot of things are local issues, but there is uniformity across the US. Certification of medical professionals is a local issue, yet there is considerable uniformity across the US. The ONLY reason - even after the disgrace of 2000 (whatever you believe the real outcome of that race was) - we do not have a fraud resistant electoral process is because politicians prefer a process that is open to manipulation.

Our stock in the world has plummeted with our misguided adventures in Iraq, and if this election is contested, any attempts by the US to preach the virtues of democracy will be ridiculed by even the worst dictators.

If this were any other country in the world, we'd have pointed and laughed and officially denounced their elections as fixed.

Nowhere else in the world would the US stand idly by and watch a jurisdiction ruled by the brother of the incumbent leader allow free elections to fall to pieces awash in scandal.

And given the joke that we have become, I doubt if we ever could again.

There is no federal election in Canada as we speak. And when there was some, I posted about it considerably, as documented by this.

Talk about putting your foot in your mouth...

A federal judge in Cincinnati has halted hearings on Ohio voter registration challenges, ruling in favor of Democrats who say the challenges are a GOP attempt to keep legitimate votes from counting.

We don't need UN election inspectors.

We NEED to get our own democracy back from the clutches of our own red, white and blue thugs.

Us Canadians were quite concerned and vocal during the Canadian federal election earlier this year. The reason you didn't realize it is that it was all done in about 2 months. Unlike the marathon circus show that is the American election.

Yes I said "circus". There are elephants, donkeys, clowns, freaks, and now a disappearing act. All you need is to have someone shot out of a cannon and you could charge admission.

How on earth, with all the past problems and the scrutiny afforded this issue, especially in Florida, can this happen?

Its all quite mesmerizing. But more in the context of watching an airplane careen into a mountain out of control than watching a circus really…

Yes I said "circus". There are elephants, donkeys, clowns, dare-devils, and now a disapearing act.

There will be DOJ election inspectors that are charged with upholding the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Nice put Airplay,

I couldn't have said it better myself. I just feel sorry for the american people. They are the ones who has to go thru this. It must be irritating that the Greatest country in the world don't know how to have an election without making a fool of them selves infront of the rest of the world.

I think there will be more of this the noext couple of days unfortunatly.  Sad

Well, allow me.

Since you seem to have a strange "girly" attraction to perfume, I've found something that will both satisfy this fantasy of yours and illustrate what I think about your opinion, although in a slightly dyslexic way.

I just got back from voting early here in FL. In the 3 hours it took me to vote at least 1,000 people were there at all times. The line streched from the voting booths on the second floor all the way into the hall into the stairs and back into the first floor lobby where it wound around and ended about 100 feet outside the door(whew!). There probably would have been more but parking in downtown Gainesville is tough to come by.
