Are You Honest?

If you are walking down the street and you find £10, $10 etc on the floor, do you pick it up and keep it? Is that honest?

What about if you found £100 or £500. Would you still keep it or is that dis-honest?

Where do you cross the line from honesty to dis-honesty?

Don't believe EGGD - he's obviously lying !  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

It's a tricky one - if you see the GBP10.00 on the floor, and nobody's about to whom it might belong, why not pick it up ? Same with GBP100.00 or 500. If its in a wallet, yes you hand it in to the Police, but cash by itself, not so obvious.

I don't think this is a question of honesty. If you find money on the ground and don't pick it up, it will just be picked up by someone else.

Your actions following the discovery are an indication of your morals. I wouldn't advertise the fact that I found the money because chances are you will end up surrending the cash to the wrong person...but I would pay attention for any claim of lost money for a couple of weeks and yes, return it.

Yes, and I'd be sure and walk down that street more often!

But besides that. Yes I'm very honest. But sometimes you need to find a little lie. And I'm sure everyone has done it.

If I find cash just lying on the ground I would probably keep it unless it was over 100 bucks, then I would try and find some sort of lost and found.

If I found a wallet, purse or other item I would always try and find the owner through an ID or lost and found because I know what it's like to lose something like that.

If it was $5 or $10 I'd pick it up and walk off with it. Its only $5, I'm sure the person wont miss it too too much. If it was $100 or $500 I would give it to someone who can get it back to its proper owner.

If I found £10 I'd keep it. If I found $10 I'd let it lie. I learned on another thread here that the $10 is not going to be worth keeping.

At just about the poorest time of my life I found $500 is some trash that was left for me to clean up by a previous occupant of a house. I felt that this person had cheated me already over a small amount relating to the house. Still I sat on that money for nearly a year waiting for them to realize they'd left it somewhere. They never did, and eventually I spent it. I'd given them the opportunity to discover the loss. On the other hand I never contacted them.

So tell me, does that make me honest or dishonest? How about dishonest but with good intentions? Of course the road to hell is supposed to be paved with good intentions.

Well if its a fair ammount of money, theoreticly the system works by them losing it, them reporting it to the police, me finding it and bringing it in, then coming to claim it, and everything is back to how it should be.

I'm a honest person, whether i find $10 or $500 i'll hand it in to the authorities. There's a element of guilt involved knowing that that money is not mine and have done nothing to earn it. I found a almost brand new camera phone on the road a few months ago.......i handed it in to the police.

You would like to think that if you handed it to the police it would find its way back to it's owner. I'm sure it would be claimed, but the rightful owner....?

If I found any denomination of money, I'd pick it up and take it. If I heard that someone lost the money, I'd return it. Mind you, if it was a quarter or something small like that, then I'd just keep on walking, unless of course it was one of those new ones with the poppy in the middle. Damn, I want one of those.

Finders keepers, losers suck.

In the US we don't have floors on our streets.

In all seriousness, if it's $10, I'd pick it up and look to see if someone is looking around for it, and give it back if someone seemed to actually have lost it. Otherwise, someone else will just pick it up themselves and keep it. So, I'll give it a shot, then keep it if no one claims it. Seriously, are you going to hand $10 to a Policeman and say, I found this, can you make sure it gets back to its rightful owner? It would cost the taxpayers $1,000 to do it.

If it were a really large sum of money, say a bag of unmarked hundreds with consecutive serial numbers, I'd look around for the movie cameras or the black limousine with the .357 Magnum sticking out the window.

I will keep any amount of money! Simple for me, if I find money I'M KEEPING IT!! To bad for the guy/girl who lost his wallet/his money!

Yeah of course I will appreciate it when someone returns my money/wallet if I lost it! But another situation: you found a wallet with money, bankpasses etc, especially those creditcards etc. IF this would happen to me, I would get the money out of it, call the police from a telephone cell somewhere downtown and say that I found a wallet with creditcards etc. Of course: I won't say my name, give the wallet to some police officer himself etc, yeah I thought of this before  Big grin

But then I'm still being nice right  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Okay, I grab the money BUT I would return his creditcards  Smile

Well, despite being dishonest someone did drop a £20 note at a shop I was working in so I chased her down and gave it back. It just seemed like the right thing to do.
