Many people believe it's going to be a very harsh winter over most parts of the country. Animals furs are very thick this year. Squirrels have started gathering food since August. Spider webs are strong and thick this year. What do you think the winter will brng? Robert NWDC10

"The day after tomorrow" ?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Seriously, fact is that over the last years summers have become warmer and winters colder. Lots of speculations though about the exact causes hereof.

Really??? I think just the opposite here. When I was a kid the lake by my house froze solid every year before Christmas, and we skated on it until well into March. For many years now, though, it barely freezes over at all. When it does, it's just a thin crust, melts quickly. No one has been able to go onto the lake in winter for a long time. Our winters here now have long periods of above-freezing temps. I sure don't remember that as a kid!

I have heard that when there is a lot of hurricanes that there is a good chance it will be a harsh winter. I'm not sure if this has any truth to it but it's interesting.

People have said that '62-'62 (?) had a severe winter in the majority of the United States after several hurricanes. Bundle up everyone. Looks like it will be a very cold, harsh winter. Robert NWDC10

Iowaman -

If you're right, then all the grief the Ohio Valley has suffered this year due to the hurricanes is just the prelude for what's to come.

I, for one, hope you are full of s**t!! lol

I'll agree with that...Chicago hasn't gotten nearly enough snow over the last few years (until, say, 2000?), and I want to see more more more more! That's why I love going home for winter break, Chicago winters are way better then Kansas winters!
