Okay, not really, but this article is amusing.

http://slate.msn.com/id/102291/

Ted Turner all but confirmed the balkanization of America when he established a cable network exclusively for the citizens of Dixie, serving up finger-lickin' TV fare that includes Andy Griffith reruns, the best of World Championship Wrestling, CNN South, and slapstick movies such as Dumb and Dumber (which, according to the president of "Turner South," gets unusually high ratings regionally).

Ouch, that one hurts.

Clinton's path to victory was the trashing of Sister Soulja as he and other Southern Democrats weaned their party away from Northern special interests (aka "the party base") such as environmentalists, organized labor, African-Americans, consumer advocates, Latinos, and gays. Gore lost the election (and even his home state, which he loyally represented for 16 years) because he went off message and dared to espouse progressive, populist themes on government, gun control, and the environment.

I can't disagree with that assessment.

Economically and socially, secession will be painless for the North. The South is a gangrenous limb that should have been lopped off decades ago. ... They [Southern states] steal business away from the North the same way that developing countries worldwide have always attracted foreign direct investment: through low wages and anti-union laws.

Hmmm, let's see. Nissan built their mammoth new plant in Mississippi because of the lower cost of living, big city nearby (Jackson), and LOWER TAXES than most other states. Boeing built it's Delta rocket plant in Decatur, AL, for similiar reasons. New England is (relatively) crowded and more socialist than the Southern states.

Imagine then, for just a moment, the North as its own nation. Trent Lott and Dick Armey would be foreigners. We would no longer be subjected to round-the-clock TV commercials for Dale Earnhardt commemorative plates. If you were to expel all Southerners from Congress (both parties, mind you) the new liberal majority would be able to pass tougher gun laws and legislation barring discrimination against gays and lesbians immediately. With the South banished from the Union, we could begin to correct the most objectionable aspects of Southern behavior with the same tools we use to engage countries such as China: by making trade and continued foreign aid contingent upon sincere efforts to clean up the environment and improve human rights. We could implement "Plan South Carolina" to convince tobacco growers to develop alternative crops. Northern observers could ensure democracy in Florida polling places. Peace Corps volunteers could teach the necessary skills that would allow Southerners to pull themselves out of poverty and illiteracy while simultaneously promoting a better understanding of American values.

This is the best part. First of all, the guy's advocating NORTHERN SECESSION, which is why they'll continue to be the US and the South can "become" the Confederacy again, right? He's a dummy if he thinks that secession means that you can kick other sovereign states out of a voluntary union. Go form the Liberal States of America if you want to, but they wouldn't be part of the USA any more.

Secondly, he's acting like the South is some sort of Third World country. Typical elistist snobbism (yes, I overdo the whole snob thing, but it's fun). When your state is as white and as wealthy as Mass, well, that's a far different cry from the poorest state in the union, Mississippi. Wealth has a lot to do with what he's describing.

Note: I don't really wish for any states to secede from the union, but I believe that they and their citizens have the right to do so, because the individual states existed first, prior to the formation of the several federal governments that we've had. They entered into a voluntary union to make things like interstate trade and having a national currency easier. However, I think that we and the world would be better off if the Southern secession hadn't been stopped by the tyrant Lincoln. There would be millions more Americans alive today (not just the 620,000 that died in the war: would we have unconstitutionally become involved in Korea, or Vietnam, or the current mess in Iraq?), and there probably never would've been a need for a civil rights movement.

Heh, MD-90 your spelling of the topic makes it clear what part of the country you're from.

You think New England is socialist? I have a clue for you. The Red states consume nearly 3 times as much in social services as the Blue states, but the Blue states contribute more taxes.

"I'm All For Northern Succession"

Yes, we have succeeded.

In education for one.

If your miserable slave state had education other than that big stupid frat house you call Ol' Miss you would know that the word is

"SECESSION."

You know, I'm sick of my taxes going to shit like "No Child's bum left behind" and other crap that basically funds your pathetic Walmart grazing, fag bashing, children out of wedlock churning lifestyles.

Hmmm, let's see. Nissan built their mammoth new plant in Mississippi because of the lower cost of living, big city nearby (Jackson), and LOWER TAXES than most other states.

a. Jackson is a hole. It is not big, nor is it a city. For real cities, try Boston, New York, San Francisco.
b. The reason your slave state has lower taxes is because our higher state and local taxes here pay for our services and our federal taxes go towards subsidizing your lives.

Great weather.
And the ability to pay for any destruction earthquakes may cause.
Unlike building homes in a fetid, swampy, hot, disgusting flood plain and then expecting the rest of the country to foot the bill when mother nature kicks you in the ass.

What an ignorant post. It makes me laugh really hard to see that there are people like you in the world. It makes me proud to be who I am, and to be as well-educated as I am. Thanks. And to say something, I wish the South would give it up. They've been backwards for all these years and show no progress in becoming more mainstream with the rest of the country. Other than Georgia (a state which I adore) I hope some Southern states do seceed (sp?). We could do without states like Mississippi and Alabama. I'm being sarcastic, but that's only a SLIGHT exaggeration of how I feel.

Actually, you could end up with 4 or 5 countries, as fractured as we are today.

Let's see:

You could end up with the South, the Great Plains and the Upper Midwest as one nation (SC, NC, VA, WV, TN, KY, IN, GA, FL, MS, LA, AL, AR, OK, MO, KS, ND, SD, WY, ID, MT, UT. ID). That could be called "Jesusland"  Big grin

Then you could have the Northeast and the midwest form a nation: MN, IA, WI, IL, MI, OH, PA, MD, DC, NY, NJ, RI, MA, CT, VT MEA Middle East Airlines (Lebanon)">ME, NH. That could be called, well, hell, I don't know. Think of something good.

Then you could have Texas, which no one really wants. Think of all the suffering that would ned for the rest of us.  Big grin

Then you could have CA, WA, OR form "LaLaLand", or "Fantasyland" or something like that.

You can give NM and AZ back to Mexico.  Big grin

Hawaii, I don't know who gets that-probably Fantasyland.

And lastly, in honor of L-188, Alaska is on it's own again.

Then we could all live in harmony.

What's up with building homes on a flood plain?

Typical government intervention messing with the free market. People wouldn't be so apt to build houses and communities so close to the Mississippi River or the coast if there wasn't federal insurance available.

Falcon, you forgot Hawaii. Let them be independent again. And Texas belongs in the South.

I was born in Connecticut. My father lives there now. It ain't France, but it ain't Alabama, either. I would have no problem with cutting taxes for everybody and cutting government spending. We'd ALL be better off.
