It's simple really, you buy stuff they charge you a percentage based on the sale price. Depending on where you buy stuff the taxes could be higher but will never exceed 8.75%.
You do not get the money back and you pay tax like everyone else.

I believe there's NO WAY to get the sales tax refunded. If you're thinking about things like Global Refund you may just forget it.
Shopping in states with low or no sales tax is the only way around I guess.

Andreas - Berlin was COOL ! I had a great time, went to lots of museums (the Pergamon, the one by Checkpoint Charlie, and the Egyptian Museum in Charlottenburg), walked down Unter Den Linden, through the Brandenburg Gate, saw the Reichstag/Bundestag (I didn't go up the dome because I am boycotting Norman Foster who is a talentless hack), saw Checkpoint Charlie and the memorial there, and saw a 3D Imax movie - all in one day ! Now I'm exhausted. It's a wonderful city and I will definitely go back and see more.
