All I have to say is WOW. What a horrible choice. We'll see how this goes.

Well, well... Mrs. Condoleezza "mushroom cloud" Rice working for the trust of her foreign partners... At least there will be an ironic smile on every face whenever she´s showing up anywhere...  Wink/being sarcastic

This has got to be the "Free Ham for a Jew" quandary for the Dems:

She's a black woman secretary of state!
But she's conservative!
But she's a black woman secretary of state!....

No, I dont mind that a black woman was chosen. I'm all for diversity in politics, I just dont think Condoleezza was the best choice. If you think Iraq is a mess now, lets see what Condy does to make it better.  Insane

She wont do much.

Well, Bush is 1 for 2 on his new appointments. I think Gonzales was a good choice. I think Rice is about the worst choice he could make for SecState, since she was a force behind the Iraq policy, and half the world can't stand her or her ideas.

Batting .500 isn't bad, though.  Smile

Actually MattD, it seems as if it's more Bush's attempt to keep the criticism down. I mean, how can ANYONE dispute the appointment of a black woman? Qualifications be damned, they'd be racists to even THINK about it. She's a black woman secretary of state!....

Subject: Conversation between Mr.Bush and Ms.Condoleeza Rice

Condoleeza R.: Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of
China.
George B.: Great. Lay it on me.
Condoleeza R.: Hu is the new leader of China.
George B.: That's what I want to know.
Condoleeza R.: That's what I'm telling you.
George B.: That's what I'm asking you. Who is the new leader of China?
Condoleeza R.: Yes.
George B.: I mean the fellow's name.
Condoleeza R.: Hu.
George B.: The guy in China.
Condoleeza R.: Hu.
George B.: The new leader of China.
Condoleeza R.: Hu.
George B.: The Chinaman!
Condoleeza R.: Hu is leading China.
George B.: Now whaddya' asking me for?
Condoleeza R.: I'm telling you Hu is leading China.
George B.: Well, I'm asking you. Who is leading China?
Condoleeza R.: That's the man's name.
George B.: That's who's name?
Condoleeza R.: Yes.
George B.: Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new leader of China?
Condoleeza R.: Yes, sir.
George B.: Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I thought he was dead!
Condoleeza R.: That's correct.
George B.: Then who is in China?
Condoleeza R.: Yes, sir.
George B.: Yassir is in China?
Condoleeza R.: No, sir.
George B.: Then who is?

George B.: Yassir?
Condoleeza R.: No, sir.
George B.: Look, Condi. I need to know the name of the new leader of
China.
Get me the Secretary General of the U.N. on the phone.
Condoleeza R.:Kofi?
George B.: No, thanks.
Condoleeza R.: You want Kofi?
George B.: No.
Condoleeza R.: You don't want Kofi.
George B.: No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of
milk. And then get me the U.N.
Condoleeza R.: Yes, sir.
George B.: Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N.
Condoleeza R.: Kofi?
George B.: Milk! Will you please make the call?
Condoleeza R.: And call who?
George B.: Who is the guy at the U.N?
Condoleeza R.: Hu is the guy in China.
George B.: Will you stay out of China?!
Condoleeza R.: Yes, sir.
George B.: And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the
U.N.
Condoleeza R.: Kofi.
George B.: All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone.
(Condi picks up the phone.)
Condoleeza R.: Rice, here.
George B.: Rice? Good idea. And a couple of egg rolls, too. Maybe we
should send some to the guy in China. And the Middle East.

Just because someone graduates from college at an early age, doesnt mean they know whats best for the country. Granted she may be a smart woman, but she's not a smart choice.

That was pretty dang funny, did you make it up or find it somewhere?

Either way...well done.

I don't know if this was the best choice. I think she was in the right slot where she was before. I am prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt, as she is a strong and hyperintelligent woman, who won't take crap off anyone.

This should be interesting, provided ABC is correct.

Henry Kissinger was appointed Secretary of State in 1971 right after he served as National Security Adviser for Richard Nixon.

Condi Rice is to be appointed Secretary of State right after she served as National Security Adviser for George W. Bush.

Interpetations and parallels are welcomed  Smile

The ultimate "yes man."

She will tell GWB exactly what he wants to hear.

Condi is an academic soviet-ologist. As far as her politics go, the woman is more bound by her loyalty to GWB than to any post-cold war ideology - conservative or liberal or what-have-you.

This thread is incorrectly titled.

She has been NOMINATED as Sec of State. Yes, she will probably get it, but she is not yet the Sec. Of State.

Springbok, that was too funny! I think they did a variation of it on Saturday Night Live and VP Cheney was also in the discussion.

Falcon, do you think Albert Gonzales will have any problems getting confirmed for AG? For some reason, I'm getting flashbacks of Bush's choice of Miguel Estrada for US Circuit Court of Appeals in DC and the controversy it created (Dems' filibustering) until Estrada withdrew his name.

We haven't even started G.W. round two, yet! Dr. Rice was unable to answer simple questions during the 9/11 Commission. I was stunned to read that in the New York Times on Tuesday! I think I may defect to Canada.
