In my opinion they are the greatest band ever. Incredible chemistry between the members of the band produced many classics including
Paradise City
Sweet Child O Mine
November Rain
Welcome to the Jungle
You could be mine
Dont Cry
I saw the "new GNR" about 2 years ago in concert and the show was just incredible, unfortunately the tour was cancelled and the world is still waiting for Chinese Democracy, which may or may not ever come out. At least Slash, Duff, and Matt are having sucess with Velvet Revolver. For anyone that likes GNR, you should check them out. The cd has a nice mix of fast and slow songs, and plenty of Slash guitar solos. I havent been able to get into the fast paced songs as much yet, but I am loving the slower songs such as fall to pieces, loving the alien, and you got no right.

Up to Appetite for Destruction, they had a good edge, raw from the sewer. Then their egos got way too big. The double album(s) were patchy - brilliant in spots and dodgy in others.
But the idea of spending months, even years in a studio to record a f&%king rock album is beyond me. Black Sabbath did their first album in 3 hours. Other good bands can do it in a couple of weeks. Even Pink Floyd with all their sonic experimentation never took more than a couple of months. But if it takes you a month to do one simple guitar-bass-drums-vocals song, it's time to change careers, because you are relying too much on the production and not enough on talent. And after, what, 14 years since the last proper album, I ain't holding my breath.

Shame all the good ones have crazy nuts.
Sometimes I go about in pity for myself and all the while a great wind carries me across the sky.
