Mine's the Braeburn. A perfect amount of crispiniess, and sweet but not too sweet and consistent in quality.

Used to like the Granny Smith but it seems every other one is really bitter.

Bristolflyer et al,

If you like Braeburn, then you've got to try Fuji apples. The new crop from Italy has just hit our (super)markets - they are delicious! Braeburn is my number 2.

Braeburn definitely.

Did you know that some South American (possibly Argentinian) industrial spies stole a sample of an apple tree called "Pacific Rose" which was a new apple bred in NZ and was not for sale...now they grow them in South America from that stolen sample.

My PowerMac G5...  Big thumbs up

Ah, the edible kind. That would be Jona Gold. Perfect balance of good flavour, texture and neither too sweet nor too sour.

By the way, as legend has it, the Apple guys named the Macintosh after their favourite brand of edible apples...

Braeburn, Golden Delicious or Fiji for me. They're all about equal. I really don't like Granny Smith or Red Delicious. Too plain.

Well, I have to admit that I have a couple new favorites that I had never heard of until last weekend. We went up to "Apple Hill" near our house last weekend to get our Christmas tree and stopped at one of the orchards whiel we were there. They had a tasting area and after doing that, we ended up coming home with quite a few Winesap and also Mutsu apples. Both have a really strong sweet taste and just appealed to me. Before that, I was a huge fan of Gala Apples.

Once I tried fuji apples a few years ago, I never found another kind satisfying again. They are sweet like delicious apples, but crispy and thirst-quenching--never mealy and pulpy. (Braeburns and galas are in second place, but really they just aren't as consistently good.)

Other apples have their uses, for pies or whatever, but to eat plain, I'm with Robert, FUJI all the way...
