Only in Bush's Amerikkka

A 10-year-old girl was placed in handcuffs and taken to a police station because she took a pair of scissors to her elementary school.

School district officials said the fourth-grade student did not threaten anyone with the 8-inch shears, but violated a rule that considers scissors to be potential weapons.

Nope, it weans't Bush's decision (I never said that).

However, we now live in a world where everyone is a potential threat. Even a 4th grader with a pair of scissors.

Pathetic.

America was this way pre-Bush. After Columbine and Jonesboro, schools are NOT taking any chances any more. That was even in 'Clinton's America.'

You are absolutely right. Under Clinton, Janet Reno's justice department would have sent federal officers with assault rifles and flak vests like they did with Elian Gonzales.

Spare us the partisan crap. It just does not apply.

These lucky people hit the jackpot. They can now sue the local Government.

In whomevers america, where is the common sense? Arresting and putting a 4th grader in handcuffs is not "not taking any chances", it is being outright stupid. Being aware of and noticing students who are being treated like shit by their peers (the majority if not all of the persons that comitted school shootings) is doing the right thing, arresting an individual that statistically is 0% likely to commit any crime let alone murdering anyone is just wrong.

WTF?!?!?!... What is America coming to. We live in a world where Scissors are illegal, yet pot and cocaine seem to be escaping the grasp of police.

See this is my point...this is my point as I said in another thread we should legalize drugs. But this reminds me of the case where a girl got suspended for doing cartwheels. I mean how redicioulous is this getting. I thought Bush wanted no Child left behind... well by arresting them for having a pair of scissors or doing a carthwheel not only are they being left behind....they are nationally embarressed over stupid things.

Out-friggin-rageous!

When I was in grammer school we were required to have scissors. How the heck does someone do crafts and projects that stimulate creativity without scissors?

The future looks a lot like rectangles and ripped, jagged edges.

Porsche Brown?

I believe her parents should have been arrested and taken away. Who the hell gives his daugther such a ridiculous name?

Scissors were banned in my school district after there was a stabbing with them on a bus which I was on in 7th grade, when a 6th grader stabbed an 8th grader with them on the bus...real big mess, then the school district banned them...

I don't care who the president is, arresting a 4th grader for having scissors at school is just pathetic. But there is a possible exception- when they said the scissors were 8-inch shears did they mean that the entire pair of scissors from handle to tip was 8 inches or did they mean that the blade was 8 inches? If the blade was 8 inches those could be dangerous scissors because 8 inches is pretty big for a blade. Her parents shouldn't have let her have scissors that big. If they were 8 inches handle to tip that's not that bad. But still it is IMPOSSIBLE to cut something in school without scissors. I think this case is pathetic, pathetic, pathetic.

BTW have you ever noticed that there are names for people that are the names of cars but they are always nice cars? For example- Mercedes, Porsche, Enzo....men must be doing the naming! But a name like Porsche Brown makes no sense....what happened to normal names like Caroline and Mary?

Just my 2 cents!

first of all I highly doubt that she was taken out in handcuffs.. I really won't believe this until there is some sort of video or photot that shows her in handcuffs.. If it is true I highly doubt the girl was just peacefully sitting there..

Come on, you think the paper would lie? What would be the motive for that? And how much trouble could a girl in fourth grade cause? What do you think she weighs, maybe 50/60 pounds?

i think she would be more scared from being handcuffed, than from just being told what was right....

a kid needs to be treated right to not make errors....cuffing her at a vulnerable age....forget it..she'll have nightmares or something along the lines of feeling super guilty later on...

Let me get this straight, this is due to Bush, the president who supports the NRA? Give me a break!  Insane

However, yes that is extreme what happened. I'd definately examine school policy before continuing to administer such rules, unless it really was a double-machete 8 incher.

This reminds me of when I was leaving the US in March 2002! With the rest of my family, and after running a bit late leaving the apartment, ended up just throwing my soap bag into my carry on because my bags for the hold were too full. Well I forgot I had a pair of old safety (YES SAFETY) scissors in there!

Of course as we all know safety scissors are called safety scissors because you cant cut flesh with them, but does that matter to the TSA? Does it F**K!!! I was treated like a criminal, with US army standing over me with machine guns while I was questioned as to why they were there!

At times I still cant believe that I was treated this way! I mean come on even if I had a standard pair of scissors, or if some terrorist did, how wud i take over a plane with them? :S

Oh and back to the original story, so what! my schools i've been too always gave us scissors!!!! yes they were kept in a tub on the side so we could use them as need be.

This is totally nuts if it's true.
I mean come on. You can use anything as a weapon then. It's so easy to stab someone with a pencil as well.

So I really hope that this isn't true.
