I doubt it can do better than the original.

Gene Wilder was genius in the role of Willie Wonka - but I do have a lot of faith in both Johnny Depp and Tim Burton who are both brilliant in my opinion.

I shall wait before I declare this the new "Cat in the Hat".

QUANTASFOREVER, I agree!!! The original movie with Gene Wilder was amazing and I don't believe that anyone will ever be able to act as Willie Wonka as well as he did.  Big thumbs up

The original is one of the best films of all time (in my opinion).

I find it interesting how this one is called "Charlie" and the Chocolate Factory and this trailer only shows Charlie for a second. Whatever, Johnny D is my favorite actor and I look foward to seeing it.

...aside from the fact that that was the tale's original designation?  Nuts

Johnny Depp looks like a manic coke head in this movie.....his character is going to scare little kids who go see this.

I fail to see a good reason to remake the original film made with Gene Wilder in the role of Wonka.

...as opposed to every other he's done?

ConcordeBoy:

Yes well the original movie was "Willie Wonka" and the Chocolate Factory.

You'd think that since this one took the name "Charlie" like the book, you'd see a little more Charlie. That's all I was getting at.

I have a lot of faith in Tim Burton....the movie industry's one-trick-pony...to do the only thing he's capable of, which is to take established stories, turn down the lights and make it dark and disturbing.

I was hopeful this movie would never come to fruition, but apparently since there ARE no new ideas in this world, Burton has seen fit to destroy the legacy of a great film.

So when does he tackle "Jaws" and make the whole thing set at night?  Insane

Johnny Depp doesn't look like a coke addict, he looks like a transexual....I thought it was a woman at first

I think that Christopher Walken would have been a fine choice, as Willy Wonka. Too bad this wasn't done as a continuation, and say, have this movie show us what Charlie Bucket became after he won the factory.

My suggestion for you would be to watch the original Willie Wonka on either video or DVD. Then you'll have the "Um-pa Um-pa" song in your head instead.
