Sex scandal in Congo threatens to engulf UN's peacekeepers

HOME-MADE pornographic videos shot by a United Nations logistics expert in the Democratic Republic of Congo have sparked a sex scandal that threatens to become the UN’s Abu Ghraib.
The expert was a Frenchman who worked at Goma airport as part of the UN’s $700 million-a-year effort to rebuild the war-shattered country. When police raided his home they discovered that he had turned his bedroom into a studio for videotaping and photographing sex sessions with young girls.
The bed was surrounded by large mirrors on three sides, according to a senior Congolese police officer. On the fourth side was a camera that he could operate from the bed with a remote control.
When the police arrived the man was allegedly about to rape a 12-year-old girl sent to him in a sting operation. Three home-made porn videos and more than 50 photographs were found.

among the 13,100 members of MONUC (UN mission in Congo) there have been 150 alleged cases of misconduct since May 2004, most of sexual nature or related to it, an investigation is inderway.
2 Moroccan soldiers have been flown back (but not indicted in their country)
2 Tunisian soldiers have been "repatriated"
1 South African soldier for rape on the person of a female SA officer
other soldiers from contingents of South Africa, Pakistan, Nepal, Uruguay, Morocco, Tunisia are investigated, as well as civilian members of MONUC, including a Russian who allegedly was conducting a large scale sex-oriented business, and the French you gladly mentioned, and an American citizen who has a record of setting up lucrative sex ops in every place he has been.
Next to this, the official DRC army, the various friendly and rebel factions and militias, and foreign troops in the NE of Congo have been doing exactly the same, though on a larger scale for several years. Except for AIDS, these ones have nothing to fear.

Might sound strange to you, but this has been normal practice and behaviour in black African societies ever.

Of course the UN personel have other things to fear, DRC is one of the most dangerous places on earth, diseases and violence is common.
I think it´s a good sign that these things aren´t brushed aside, like a lot of things where in Sierra Leone.
I feel sad that Katanga didn´t become a country, UN is to blame for the

It would be reassuring to know that "young US conservative" is not necessarily synonimous to half blind, pissed off, trigger happy (poster), mentally retarded, born to rant, connected to the internet and disconnected from the world.
If any of those would have paid some attention to the article they could have realized that it only refers to one girl "allegedly going to be raped", at the very least a very subjective opinion.
They could also have read that girls provide their "services" for anything between 1 and 3$, and are doing so willingly in order to survive, which makes rape a very unlikely or very rare prospect.
If any of you would know what sexual practices are like in black Africa, they would have known that girls know very accurately about it usually before they reach the age of 10, that many are no longer virgins by the age of 12, that many are married by age 14, and that sex is not part of any taboo, it is performed rather openly and as many times as nature permits.
Add to this the extreme economic hardships, and if you put sexually inhibited men in the picture you get a sex circus, not a rape factory.
Grow up and get a life, Xmas is a good time to build up good intentions.
